american satellite channels? is it possible?

i currently have sky.. i am wondering if its possible to receive american satellite channels in Ireland??

i realise that i most likely would have to invest in better equipment and bigger dish... but is it possilbe to pick up american satellite channels in Ireland?

if so what channels are available?

In a word NO because any satellite with US TV is below the
horizon. The only thing that you would get is feeds to and
from US. On a few satellites like Eutel 16E there are
feeds from US stations like CBS.

How does one work out what satellites are beyond the Horizon

Say Im at (round figure) 5 deg West and 54 deg North
What are the most Westerly and Easterly satellites Im likely to recieve assuming no local obscructions

There are quite a few satellites carrying US channels which are viewable from Ireland. The problem is their footprints are focussed on the US.
