Did anyone see the midweek movie last night on RTE1. The Village, quite possible the worst film I have ever seen. I was in shock at the end of it. How was this movie ever given the go ahead???? The storyline reminded me of a brutal attempt at a junior cert essay with no concept of where it was going or what it was trying to portray, DIABOLICAL:eek:

Is that the one with Whack-off Phoenix? From what I remember the film had a lot of promise but turned out to be pretty mediocre. The fact that I can't really remember and never went to see it says a lot really...

Deeply flawed film but not as bad as it's made out to be, I've seen far worse. It's the stupid twist that's the problem. I thought Howard was great in it though.

it does seem like it is going somewhere till about a third of the way in and then, wham, reality bites, it is woeful. What was Brendan Gleeson thinking! he says about three words in the whole film. he must have been paid sh*t loads to ever have considered such a pile of junk

    Really awful film.

Can't believe I watched it! I really hate that Shymalalamanana (whatever) bloke.

I really did hate this film. The ending was such a cop out. Felt it was just M Night trying to throw a twist in there. And I was really enjoying it up until the big switcharoo in the middle.
    Terrific performance from Bryce though.

I found myself in the minority when I saw and enjoyed this. But the twist was blatantly obvious from the beginning. Most people complain about this and the ridiculous 'monster' stuff. But the worst thing the film did in my opinion was have the blind girl head off for the medicine. Why on earth didnt William Hurt go? He knew the way. He knew what he was looking for. He wouldnt be shocked by what he found. He could brush off any questions and bs anybody he met. HE COULD SEE.

    It just made no sense.

It had a good script and some nice performances in it... but it was an atrociously stupid plot.

As for Howard, she did a terrible job of playing a blind person.. but other than she was very good.

One of the very few films to make me angry. It was so bad, so stupid and the ending is a director thumbing his nose at logic in favour of a ridiculously tacked on ending.

The lead actress the "blind" woman was horrendous. All she did was look into the middle distance and avoid blinking. I also seem to remember her running through the woods with a stick in front of her which was very inspiring.

I really hate films that have endings like this. Its such a stupid tool. You can basically end any film using them.

Die Hard - John McClane is in a mental institute and imagined the whole thing (deep)

Rocky - The fight against Apollo is actually a visual representation of Rocky's battle with Diabetes

Lethal Weapon - Riggs is not real - he was created by Murtaugh to compensate for the loneliness of his impending retirement (actually i quite like that one.......)

You see, nonsensical pseudo depth that shows how pretentious directors can be.

Not showing how pretentious writers can be? You know, the people who come up with the story in the first place?

    M. Night Shyamalan wrote The Village. And there are also certain directors with a penchant for the twisty arty ending.

Great film in my honest opinion. Just like Lady in the water. Good popcorn munching fun.

Then you missed the twist. The first half wasn't that bad in comparison :D
