    yeah loved his 80s movies

    The Elephant Man
    Dune (one of my favourites)
Blue Velvet (love dinnie hoppers role)
    Wild at Heart (sheer class)

I have vague memories of twin peaks, not really mad about his latest movies though, I think he is trying to hard to be arty\weird

Yeah but not for around 15 years or more, have fleeting memories of it being very much an arthouse piece, I must revist it again.

I absolutely love watching his films, as they are some of the only films that are truly different and exciting these days. I have thouroghly enjoyed INLAND EMPIRE ("this situation is becoming dangerous"), Lost Highway ("We've met before haven't we?" is the creepiest scene in this history of cinema), Eraserhead ("You just cut 'em up like regular chickens!") and Mullholland Drive ("We shall meet two more times..."). Of course, none of those films make any immediated sort of sense, but are totally hypnotic. The only one I kinda was disapointed by was [controversial] Blue Velvet [/controversial] - a good film in its own right, but I expected something a little weirder.
For those yet to witness the Lynch genius (minimal levels of NSFW language):

I'm a big Lynch fan although I've yet to see Inland Empire. Mulholland Drive is probably my favourite. I just ordered it on dvd last week.

    Hi,

Have seen all of his films multiple times (including INLAND EMPIRE seven times). All his works are magnificent...except Wild At Heart. Man I cannot stand that film!

Anyways...my faves would have to be Lost Highway, followed by Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive and Eraserhead. I'm still processing INLAND EMPIRE...yes, even after seven viewings. I do also love the whole Twin Peaks series, including the movie Fire Walk With Me. The Elephant Man and The Straight Story are fine movies too though the style of those movies is not 'classic Lynch'.

BTW I got to meet DL last year at a preview screening of INLAND EMPIRE :)

I don't know, I see where you're coming from Major Shake, but I think Wild At Heart is a good film, if you can ignore Nicholas Cage. Aside from him, it's brilliant.

Yeah I know what ye mean about Nic Cage...not a big fan of him (though in fairness he was very good in Leaving Las Vegas), so that def affects my feelings on the film. But my real prob is that ever since DL's first movie, Eraserhead, his works have been all about the journey into the recesses of the human psyche (usually not v pretty in DL's world). WAH, for me, does nothing to further that. Maybe my prob is that the original story/conception is not Lynch's own, but is based on Barry Gifford's novel. Whereas all of Lynch's other major films (Eraserhead, BV, FWWM, LH, MD and IE) were more or less conceived and written by himself (though LH was co-written with Gifford).

But at the end of the day film is subjective, and DL is VERY subjective...I dunno, WAH just sticks out for me as not following the same psychological journey as his other movies. Though visually and musically it is flawless.

I'm a big fan as well. First exposure was through "Twin Peaks" and since then I've managed to see most of his works (I've even got my hands on some of the more obscure stuff like "On the Air").

Major Shake has got it right - Lynch does like to take us on a twisted journey into the human mind, the dark recesses where our nightmares lie. He also wonderfully explores certain concepts, returning particularly to the area of identity that's prevalent across all his movies (his fascination with apparent twins or duplicates - the Lodges in TP, the duality visible in 'Lost Highway'/ 'Inland Empire' and 'Mulholland Drive', etc). And I guess maybe the fact that 'Wild at Heart' doesn't go down that same route explains why it's one of the few movies of his that I don't have in my DVD collection.

Having said that I've also enjoyed his more "normal" flicks. Both "The Straight Story" and "The Elephant Man" display moments of heart-breaking bitter sweetness and he's able to elicit some amazing performances (noted thankfully at the Oscars). Perhaps it's down to his genial nature - from all reports, he's a very nice man and a pleasure to work with.

I hope that the difficultly in bringing "Inland Empire" to the screens isn't going to stop him creating more movies. One of the few people where the journey is almost better than the destination.

Yeah now that you mention it I had WAH in my collection, but such is my dislike I actually gave it away!! Pre-ordered INLAND EMPIRE today on Amazon. I've got everything else of his on DVD, including Twin Peaks Season 2, which I 've just finished rewatching. Great stuff.

    always liked that one..

    anyway..

    nice to meet ye heads..

i'm currently on episode 26 of twin peaks...2 more to go (tonight :D ) and then the Fire Walk With Me film.
never seen the series before either
DL's own small role in twin peaks is brilliant...he pops up as a practically deaf fbi agent..and he almost steals the whole shole in my opnion.

my fascination with him..apart from the obvious stuff already stated by yer good selves...is his musical side.
he makes his own music for a lot of his stuff..especially Inland Empire. apparently.
i always make a point to buy his soundtracks and always love them.

spent ages scouring the net for a track by This Mortal Coil that features in LH. but does not feature on the soundtrack

    the cd arrived recently..some track:D

i also recently ordered his Short Film dvd...and HIGHLY recommend it..if just for "The Grandmother" alone;)

Dune was my first exposure to Lynch (which I love) and then some of Twin Peaks.

I saw Lost Highway in the Cinema in 1997 and it totally blew me away.
I then went back and watched every movie he released and all of twin peaks.

Watching his movies in the Cinema is physically exhausting i find :)

I've aged watching this guy movies. Mulholland Drive is superb so i'm really looking forward to Inland Empire. I'm going to watch all of Twin Peaks again. Bob was scary to watch for the first time as an eleven-year-old.

Would anyone consider sharing any DL related music they have with an old laser?

i have plenty in my library..most of the mulholland drive soundtrack...lost highway..& twin peaks.
But I am badly in need of some of that music in INLAND EMPIRE.
Does anyone have any of these songs?
Polish Poem by Chrysta Bell/David Lynch
    Black Tambourine by Beck
and the mighty Ghost of love (strange what love does) by David Lynch himself??
I would kill for these songs...and can't wait for the soundtrack
