I was up there having a game tonight and i noticed they have new holes built and ready to go. Is it another 9 holes or what? Had a look at the new 7th and 8th holes and i have to say, it looks very good indeed. Anyone any idea when they will open up??

Will most likely mean a hike in my annual fees, but should make it a little easier to get on hopefully.

Are you talking about the 3 hole loop on your rights you drive in ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,798 ✭✭✭Mister Sifter

yeh, it is on your right as you drive in. Looked like more than 3 holes though. At the back of the 11th tee there is a little gap which leads you through to a tee box. It has a sign on it saying 8th hole, (par 4, around 480 yards).

Looked to me like a new 9 holes.

I think it's just 2 holes behind the 11th tee(the little par 3?). They only seem to play those holes once in a while. It's 2 par4s. The first one is quite nice with a narrow tee shot. The second is a 90degree dog-leg left. I played them about 2 years ago. Played there twice since and they weren't in play.

If I remember correctly, the three holes are a relatively long par3 (180yds), and two great par fours (the narrow one and the 90degree one)... They are only in play at certain times of the year as (I believe) there is drainage issues with the three "real" holes that they temporarily replace...

Pity, cos it's the best stretch of holes on the course imo!

Hmmm, the holes did look fairly mature so you could well be right. Not too sure why it had Hole 8 on the tee box though? Would be a bit of a treck from the 7th to there!:)

I'll probably be back up there at the weekend so i'll try and have a wee wander out and see what the deal is.

Yes, those holes have been around for several years, and indeed the two par fours are probably the best holes on the course. Haven't been up there in a while but they were in play the last few times I played the course (last summer).

As everyone is saying those 3 holes have been around for 3 or 4 years I think. The were in regular play for a year or so iirc.
By far the nicest ones on the course too. Aiming over the house so you won't carry over the fairway on the dogleg one is fun..

cheers for the info lads. my mind is now at ease! I play up there quite alot now as its two mins from my house, so hopefully i'll get a chance to play them soon enough.

The course itself is looking very, very good this season. I played in all that rain on wednesday night and within ten minutes it had virtually all drained away. quite impressive.

i know it's fairly short, but its still a good test and i really enjoy playing it.

I'm not a huge fan of the course but played it in february or early march and it was in fantastic condition. The greens were immaculate - no comparison to what they were like a few years ago. Took me a few holes to twig but nearly every putt there seems to break towards the Liffey - even when it looks dead straight.

I always thought the greens there did a good job of protecting what is - tee to green - a relatively straight-forward course... they're deceptively tricky. There's a green on the back nine there (15th? back toward clubhouse, no maybe 14th - fairway has a bunker right in the centre of it) that used to make a fool out of me every week!

I loved playing there and would have stayed a member for many years if the traffic to it wasn't so bad...

Went up for a few holes last night after work and the "other" three holes were in play. Holes 2, 3 and 4 had been roped off. This meant that after you play hole 1, you then go down to the fifth (par 5).

The three holes were pretty good too. The ffirst fo them is a par 3 about 190 yards downhill. Then the next two are both dogleg par 4's. The second of which is quite tricky. Good holes, but fairly tricky.

Yeah, that's the ones - I reckon they're the best stretch of holes on the course. Did ya take it over the dog leg on 9?? If ya didn't, bet ya give it a whack next time!! :)

well i tried! snapped hooked it left into the trees. Got it no probs with my second ball though and managed to scramble a 4 with it. It will be inetresting to see what i do with it in a competition!! 7 iron lay up no doubt!!

It's a good little run of holes. I think two of the three they cut out for them are good too though (2nd and 4th). 3rd is a bit of a joke really.

In the year I was there (last year) they hardly had the other holes (that you've been playing up to now) in play at all...

I used to hit a soft rescue club to the dogleg and hope for it to run round the corner a bit... unless I was driving the ball well then I'm try rip if over the dogleg!

If I laid up to the dogleg I couldn't reach the green with my second however. Great hole.

I played a society comp there a couple of years ago and wasn't playing great in all honesty. I hit 6-iron of the tee and was left with a long uphill second. I decided to wait until the green cleared to hit my second and got some stick from a cranky playing partner who had cut the corner with his drive. I hit a lovely 4-iron to the front edge and got my par. The cranky bloke then duffed his wedge and took 5 :D . Highlight of not a great day.

Ha - ye gotta love that... Reminds me of playing Killeen about three/four years ago, I was off 21/22 at the time and playing in a kinda local matchplay comp. Just something we organised amongst ourselves in the boozer.

My tee shot was in the trees on the par-five first so I hacked it up the fairway, leaving myself still 205yds to the green.

My decision to wait on the green before playing my third was met with derision from the fella I was playing.

The look on his face when my 7wood landed softly in the centre of the green - priceless :D

That sounds more like a 6 to me. :D

:D no **** sherlock... 'it' refers to the second ball.

i was only out for a few holes practice though so it didn't really matter. Had it been a comp i'd have gave the driver a few dunts into the tee box, kicked the tee peg, booted the golf bag and slapped my playing partners for laughing.:)

haha... either that or anger management classes! Never really lose the head any more. Just glad to be playing the game again after a few years away.
It's funny, i was watching a guy tee off the other night and he put it in the rough. He then started pounding the driver into the ground and then stormed off up the fairway leaving his playing partners behind. I was embarrassed for him. It's amazing how much of golf is played in the head.

I must admit, my attitude on the course has slipped terribly. I'm in a rut of playing very poor golf for about three months now and my mood on the course has suffered alarmingly.

It's embarrassing I must admit, particularly considering I used to often be complemented for my on-course demeanour... Now I find myself banging clubs off the ground and kicking the golf bag. Pathetic stuff...

All stemming from the frustration of suddenly not being able to play a game I used to be half-decent at anymore!
