    Hey,

For a while now i have been steadily gaining weight. Dont get me wrong i wouldn't be fat or anything but just getting pudgy....

I only have to look at food and i put on weight.

I dont really have time to excersise as much as i used to.
I would run every second night for about 2 hours.
But with a new baby and work its very hard to get them time.

I feel my Metabolism is not doing what it should be.

I tried taking vitamins as i feel tired all the time also but as soon as i take them i feel sick and would normaly get sick about 20 mins after. My skin would also break out after a few days on them.

Is there anything out there to help kickstart my metabolism.

I should also mention i dont eat crap. May have a small bar of chocolate once or twice a week. Dont really eat crisps.

I feel if i dont do something now im gonna gonna baloon.

Well I have the exact same problem! I seem to store up every bite that passes my lips. I go to the ususally go to the gym 3-4 times a week for an hour each time, and go out for a walk most days. I eat well, and normally only drink at weekends. So I know what your talking about and its nice to hear that I'm not the only one.:(

    lol!! yeah its horrible.

i dont know if this sheds any light on whats happeing but i used to have an eating disorder when i was in school. I was a stocky build but used to get allot of stick over it. So i just basically stopped eating. From monday to friday i wouldn't eat (easier to hide from parents as i was in school and doing homework etc) come saturday i would be feeling very week and sicky. I would eat light on satuday and sunday. Then back to the usual routine mon to fri.

It didn't really work for me as it just made me sick and i have to say i didn't really loose much weight.

I understand i may have done some damage but im back to healthy status i think but need to loose atleast 2 stone. Im just under 15 and just under 6'

Im not fat as im failrly well built but pudgy

Howdy, seems like you are into extremes - running two hours every second day is crazy. Even marathon runners in training wouldn't clock up near 7 hours running a week. With kids, I find you have to fit in what you can when you can. Maybe a twenty minute run 2-4 times a week would be an idea. Bring your kid for walks when the weather is good etc., You could get some hand weights and workout at home when you have the chance a couple of times a week for say 20 minutes. Post up if you need a hand with a routine.

You should try to be eating regularly though with no really large meal, just 5-7 smaller meals, spaced out every 2-3 hours or so. No need to be anal about it - there will always be days and times when it's not possible, but try and get in the habit of eating well and regularly (see the stickies). This should keep your appetite in check and give your metabolism a boost, along with doing your workouts.

It takes time, especially after having a kid. DO NOT OPT FOR ANY QUICK FIXES - be patient, if you do the right things you will see results, and results that will last long term.

You should initially go to Fitday - calculate calories you need, calculate what you take in on an average day. It's simple maths - if you have a surplus, you will be gaining weight, if you have a deficit, you will be loosing it. If you need to create a deficit - look at your diet, and see what you can take out - you should be taking out the bad stuff first. It's ok to treat yourself too - just try and eat reasonably healthy 80% of the time. I need to get some work done, best of luck.

Thanks for all he advise everybody!

Dragan - Yeah i would eat the same as when i was excersising so i spose i wouldputting on weight that way

Moneyshot - At the time i didn't think doing that much was extreme. I actually really enjoyed it. It was time to myself.
on the weeks when i wasn't eating though i could probably only manage about 20 mins of constant running then walkin for 10 etc etc.

    Whats this Fitday thing??

I would need a deficit diet

Considering your eating history it could be possible that your metabolism is sluggish. Now from everything i have read the only way to fix this is to eat a little regularly (6 small meals a day). Basically if you follow the information outlined in the stickies it should sort you out.

There was actually an article on t-nation (MWA) about this recently

    http://www.musclewithattitude.com/readTopicMwa.do;jsessionid=E0FE285DD3F3D3F29DBC96E354E977EB.hydra?id=1584213

right so the site is a bit naff and aimed at fitness competitors but its a great source of information.

Fitday is a food tracker (basically an online food diary) you can create an account at www.fitday.com

With a new baby i am sure its difficult to find the time to excercise, so i would recommend getting your diet sorted as a priority and then taking it from there. The great thing about eating well and regularly is that it gets your energy levels up!

    edited for clarity!

I think you should perhaps keep a diary, if even for a week, of exactly what you eat and exactly what exercise you do.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I think your perception of what you eat/don't eat is a little bit off.

You say when you were in school, you wouldn't eat from Monday to Friday, and only light on the weekends? And you didn't lose a lot of weight? Did you do this every week for months, longer? I can't imagine anyone wouldn't shrink considerably if they did this for an extended period of time (though they definitely shouldn't do it!). It's very easy to "forget" that little bit you ate here, and there, and the breakfast you have, etc. I know a lot of people that have a similar attitude.

It's the same as this "2-hour run" you did every day, which in reality is actually, a bit of a run, and a bit of a walk, for two hours, possibly including the time it takes to get changed, set up your mp3 player, leave the house, get to where you're going to run, get home, etc.

Once you've kept a list of what you've been eating/exercising, even after a week, you'll be very able to quickly spot where the problem areas are, and what to improve. It would probably be a good idea to post it up here, people have a fairly good idea of diet & exercise plans.

As others have said, the best way to lose weight, especially if you have a "slow metabolism", is to eat 6 small meals a day, do 30mins-1hr of exercise (I know this is slightly harder with kids/busy life). It's a case of finding a system that works for you and getting into a routine - once you manage that you'll be making good progress!

as simple as it may sound... it only really hit me when dragan posted it.

Obviously you cant eat what you are eating if you have a strict excercise schedule.

I just kinda drew conclusions from there. You can't not eat for 5 days, still run for 2 hours every second day, and not lose any weight. I was just trying to suggest a way in which you could properly evaluate your eating habits because I suspect that perhaps you might be eating a little more than you think, it's a very common problem for lots of people.

If you re-read my post, I wasn't trying to be condescending. I just couldn't really understand your story. I'm sorry if you're done "wasting your time with me".

i would suggest you go see a doctor. If you cant keep vitamins down and your skin breaks out you must be allergic to something contained in them

-which could be why you feel so sluggish

-and you previously had an eating disorder

    Go see your GP asap

    *editied for a mistake
