Holiday Home - old box & dish

The uncle has bought a holiday home in the depths of Kerry.
The guy they bought the house from left his sky box and dish there, so i hooked it up to their tv for them last weekend
It brings up the EPG fine but when you select a programme it says no satellite signal received. So I went to setup and saw that it was showing no satellite signal was being received, i presumed the dish was out of alignment.
Then I went in and added a few BBC channels in the extra channels screen and these are displaying perfectly but I don't understand why if the box is telling me i'm getting no signal?
    Any help gratefully received.

Yes it sounds a bit unusual that you were able to add in the extra channels.
The likelihood is that the digibox software is not up to date as it probably was left disconnected for some time and that is causing the problem.
Got a similar message on a Panasonic recently, though didnt try adding channels, just did a forced update.
I think that my signal strength did show something but wouldnt lock.
Might be worth checking your signal strength with another digibox first before attempting a forced update, you need at least 60% especially on Signal quality to ensure you dont get corrupted software. If too low then fine adjust your dish allignment.
To commence forced update, remove any cards, unplug box, leave about 1 minute, hold Backup button on front panel, plug back in power, dont release Backup button until lights (20 secs) come on and Update message appears on screen. Should take 10 to 20 mins, dont touch it until finished. Some boxes have problems updating with the new software, it is possible that it could become permanently corrupted so this is not guaranteed to work in all cases.
