So as the title says. Went i try to play .avi's or .mpgs the picture isn't showing up. Just the sound. I recently formatted my computer but before that all i need to views these files was vlc player. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it. I went on their website and got the newest version. also downloaded divx but still no job. Does anyone know what the prob is and a possible fix? thanks

Codecs are missing. Install the k-lite codecs, available here.

Don't use K-Lite it's a bad codec pack use CCCP instead.

No as i thought. Installing that didn't help. I don't think it is a codec problem. I never needed extra codecs to view the same files that i was able to view fine before with just VLC player. The only vidoes that still work r apple quicktime ones. Everything else i just hear audio. Anybody have any other possible solutions?

You could try GSpot http://www.headbands.com/gspot/. It can tell you how the video and audio are encoded, and allows you to render it with DirectView. It looks like the codes are installed so I wonder if there is some sort of DirectView problem? You might get an error with GSpot that would allow you to troubleshoot that further.

Well it could be your missing the splitters for video which hand off to the codec.

Try installing Haali Media Splitter and during install tick the box for AVI support.

Could it be settings with your gfx card?

Funny, I started having the same issue a couple of days ago. Its not a codec issue, everything works in Virtualdub and Gspot. But mediaplayer, VLC, winamp you name it, blank video, irrespective of codec. Of course flash video is fine.

Im using Nvidia 6.14.10.9424 on XP Pro SP2. My Gut says possibly drivers.

I installed AutoGK yesterday to encode some video and video worked momentarily, however now its back to square one.

Its somewhate similar to the old primary/secondary display that you can have with videos, however I only have and have only had one display connected on this installation of XP.

    Interesting.

/edit quicktime works too. Rendering issue?
