Does anyone know why the range - especially sausages - has been unavailable for the last several weeks? And bloody Sosmix seems to be sold out as well -- what are we to do for our imitation full irish breakfast now?

i was able to buy the sundried tomato sausages a couple of weeks ago, but i read an interview in the Observer Food Monthly with Paul and Stella McCartney and they said that the range is getting revamped this year. maybe they're not restocking the old range as the new one comes in.

they have new packaging now i think. perhaps that caused the hold up.

The Linda McCartney brand was bought out a year ago and is in the middle of a relaunch "...in the United Kingdom".

    http://www.scouseveg.co.uk/2007/05/09/linda-mccartney-products-to-be-relaunced/

There's nothing to be had in Tesco or Superquinn so I'm guessing they've changed distributors or something, but Down To Earth on George's Street have a small selection of the newly packaged stuff. They're not the cheapest, but i am missing my deep country pies very very much so I think I'll have to pay them a visit tomorrow... although it seems the recipe's been changed. uh oh.

....and they're not deep country pies any more. they're just country pies.

well it's definitely a new recipe, and i likes it.

Sorry. deleted my Last post. It wasn't Cauldron that i got the Meditteranean Sausages....its a make Called "Wicken Fen" weird name. Anyone heard of them?? aw they're gorgeous. its the only product ive seen in their range mind you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,323 ✭✭✭Slaphead07

there's also "Vegetarian Choice" frozen sausages which are very nice, subtle taste rather than the crashbangwallop you get with some veggie sausages. €2.05 in The Hopsack in Rathmines. Their burgers are a bit thin and cardboardy (it's a food critic term ok?) so not really worth bothering with.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,128 ✭✭✭sweet-rasmus

ah, but those 'choice' sausages and burgers are 1.40 or 1.70 in galway (evergreen near tesco) and cheap in stillorgan too, so well worth buying! their sausages are the best!!! the 'wicken fen' sausages; i've seen loads of variaties popping up in the evergreen shops in galway city recently. mind you, i got hold of their burgers once, and they were by far the best i've tasted so far. :)

They might like the tesco veggie hotdogs, they are lovely:)

If you like them, you will love their vegan equivalent. Fry's I think. Mmm.
Anybody know if the Linda McCartney sausage rolls are back yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,128 ✭✭✭sweet-rasmus

i haven't seen them with the pile of new package stuff in evergreen near tesco in galway :( i looked!

Apparently the reason the mccartney range isn't on the shelves anymore is because of the Heinz takeover. And because her stuff had hydrogenated fat in it and Heinz are trying to create the equivalent without the hydrogenated fat!! So don't know how long we'll be waiting for their return. They were the only sausages I liked!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,846 ✭✭✭✭eth0_

FFS!!! Who cares, why take them off the market?
I love those sausages...in a hotdog roll, with Ballymaloe relish. mmmm

    :-(

It's weird that the sausage mix one goes pink.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,323 ✭✭✭Slaphead07

It's weird that the sausage mix one goes pink.

    It's just a beetroot colourant.

I use the sosmix regularly but sometimes I'll add chilli powder, sometimes cajun seasoning, sometimes just loads of oregano and parsley. It's all good! You can roll them in sesame seeds too (a la Cornucopia) for a different texture. Very adaptable stuff is sosmix.

I think it's great... I used to sort of like the sundried tomato ones but they were far too greasy - hydrogenated fat is cheap & nasty stuff.

There is more pressure now to get rid of it from products so they should be able to come up with a better recipe and relaunch them.

I was on to Tescos and asked their customer service when they were going to stock the Linda McCarthy food, they replied that her food has been discontinued in favour of the quorn range in our store.
Will have to see now will Dunnes Stores get it in.

I remember in the early 90's her entire range was pulled for excessive use of the above. I thought all the problems were sorted then?

They've done the same with Baxters Soups - cut the entire canned range by about half and they don't stock any of the Baxters sachet range just so it seems so they can accommodate their own range of soups.

BTW Tescos own brand soups taste like they were concocted in a chemical engineering lab. Baxters FTW.

silly tescos! they are always pulling what you want out of the store. i know one tesco which has stopped stocking the cheaper pure spread (vegan). making us pay more for the organic spread...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,173 ✭✭✭lolli

My local tesco got rid of the Linda McCartney range, I went shopping during the week and they had very little Quorn stuff in but on the price tag was written discontinued on most of the stuff. What am I supposed to eat now :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,818 ✭✭✭Gauge

I used to be addicted to the Cannelloni... haven't found anything as nice since! I miss it like hell. Never actually tried veggie sausages before, maybe they could help my cannelloni cravings :(

If you mean that then it is probably a good thing for your health that they did.

They as in Green Isle are discontinuing the range? or just tescos removing from their shelves?

   I hate Tesco so much! This is another reason to boycott this evil corporation!

Has anyone seen Linda McCartney stuff in other supermarkets? This is so irritating, it's not like it doesn't sell well!

I've seen them in Fresh, that supermarket in Smithfield in Dublin. That's about it...

But even at that there wasn't much selection

Recently though? It's only in the past month or so that they have totally disappeared :(

I might ring their customer service number later to see if they have any distribution deals in Ireland.

Anybody notice Quorn stuff disappearing from Tesco now?
Maybe it's just my local one (Wilton, Cork). Asked the girl stocking the freezers and she said they aren't ordering any more.
Looks like it's Dunnes for me from now on. :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,846 ✭✭✭✭eth0_

FYI they still sell Linda sausage rolls and sausages in that health food shop on Georges St - opposite Dunnes. Got some sossy rolls there today. Nyom nyom!

    Again, I'll restate this.

What Tescos appear to be doing is replacing fast selling lines with their own-brand crap.

I've noticed that in particular with the soups they stock.

dundurm tesco is the exact same.
