Installing ahci drivers

    Hi

I have just upgraded the motherboard on my pc and I would like to set the ide mode of my sata drive to ahci as I have read that this gives better performance.
But I have already installed xp prof on the hard drive and most of the instructions I have found are to do with installing the drivers as you install xp using the F6 method and a floppy drive. I don't have a floppy drive and I don't want to have to re-install xp if I can help it.
So, is there any way to install these drivers after the OS installation, preferably without a floppy drive.

I have found this link http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=2101&OSFullName=Windows*+XP+Professional&lang=eng&strOSs=44&submit=Go%21 which seems to be an exe to allow installation from a hard drive, see section 5.2 of the readme.
One of the pre-requisites is to install the 'Intel(R) Chipset Software Installation Utility'. I have downloaded this from http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=N&DwnldId=10884&lang=eng

So I think the procedure is
    1. Install 'Intel(R) Chipset Software Installation Utility' and reboot
    2. Install Intel(R) Matrix Storage Manager and reboot
    3. reboot and change sata mode to ahci

But before I do something which will thrash my system I was looking for some advice/guideance from someone who knows more about this that I do.

    Thanks

    D.

ahci as I have read that this gives better performance.

    It doesn't.

SATA first generation needed drivers to install using F6 method on Windows.

Later generations chipsets added the ability for SATA to emulate IDE mode so it did not require a specific driver to install Windows on.

The Intel Matrix Storage manager is for building RAID arrays nothing else.

There's nothing wrong leave it be.
