Who is the weight gain an issue for? You or your girlfriend?

it depends. Some brand of pills do and some don't. Some of them even make ppl lose their libido aswell. You'll find out in a month or two. If you love her it shouldn't even matter really..

Very true  I'm thinking himself. My girlfriend did put on weight but I loved her no matter what she looked like :)

Yes, there's a chance she could put on weight.

You're not supposed to use text speak on this forum.

It says so in the charter:
Text Speak is possibly the most annoying thing EVAR to try and read! It makes you sound 14, and as such, people are likely to view your post as some teenage angst post. Hence your use of txt spk may result in incorrect advice due to misunderstandings from illegibility (if the post is your first post of the thread), unintentionally annoying posters and causing lingual aggravation, and in the worst case scenario it can get your post binned. Continue to flaunt against this rule and txt spk can get you banned from PI.

She may, some women do, but if she does it's far more likely to be in the realm of lbs as opposed to stones. I think we women are due a bit of latitude when it comes to our weight, as a weight shift in the region of lbs is often dictated by hormones, which are outside of our control. I can understand you wouldnt want her to bang on stones and stones, but this is highly unlikely to be the case here.

If I were you OP I'd just be happy she was on the pill at all and wasnt likely to be banging on any massive amounts of weight around her mid-section that would grow steadily over the period of nine months!

Exactly. Menstruation, fluid retention, swollen breasts and other such delights cause our weight and waistlines to slightly fluctuate on a regular basis - thus causing even skinny minnies to develop, for example, stretchmarks and cellulite. Apparently there is potential for some women to gain a massive half stone during menstruation, and then it's gone overnight.

    Perfectly put, seahorse! :)

The possiblity of loss of libido is a bigger problem than weight, imo. In any case let your gf try whatever pill it is for a few months, and if she suffers weight gain or any other negative symptoms that bother her, she should go back to her gp and try a different brand. Sometimes you have to try a few different types before you get the one that suits you perfectly.

It's good for her to give a trial for a few months of the pill she is intending to take and see how her body is reacting to it. If she has gained some weight and/or has a lower libido and feels a bit down, then she may want to try a different pill. It's best for her to get advise from her GP about switching pills. I have just finished a course and wish to try a different kind, it is a bit of trial and error. It is hard to know what will work or not without trying it, as we all react in different ways.

I was on the pill for years and never put on a pound (was always natually skinny) but then went on the Depo Injection and put on nearly two stone in four months. Depends on the person. If she starts putting on weight and SHE doesn't want to, then she can go back to the Doctor and switch to a different pill.

I've been on the Pill for years and it didn't make me put on so much as a pound, it all comes down to the Pill in question. Some make you put on a pound or two which is nothing compared to some of the other side effects. See how this goes for her, many women have to try a few before they hit on one that suits them.

Dudess leave the modding of this forum to the mods.

To the OP - there's no saying what will happen. It depends on the type of pill and person.

'only if she eats more-the pill has no calories so cant make you gain weight-eating more because hormonal changes can make you gain weight-her choice.'

No it depends on the greed of the person not the pill with no calories-its not a doughnut! weight is only gained by eating more than your burning-fact.

    ...some sleep-deprived-caused ****e talking - sorry..

OP : its only really a problem if she thinks it is.

Im a qualified nutritionist and personal trainer and know all about body fat and how its gained-there is thousands of things that can effect weight gain but 1 thing that dictates it-excess calories, if the pill has adverse affects lower your calorie intake or up your exercise-mostly what can happen is the body thinks its pregnant and makes you think you need more food-the person decides whether they eat more or not-you do a lot of reading because i've studied this in great detail.

Hang on-what you told me to read even tells you its not the issue that people think it is!!!!!!! wake up.

hmm, or go to sleep, havent gone near my bed yet lol :D aaaaaanyway

i wouldnt know but i'd suppose the effects it has and trying to limit your intake even though your body wants more due to what you're taking wouldnt be an easy task. but i suppose like people have said above, it depends on what pill you're using..

The pill doesnt make you put on weight by means of taking it. It can increase your appetite which will obviously make you feel hungry more than usually. Just depends on what you eat then!

Well there's no point telling me that since I was on the pill when I got pregnant! I never said the pill was infallible. I said pregnancy, while using it, "wasnt likely".

It can also cause water retention which makes you gain weight too.

What about hormonal changes and thyroid and metabolic functions being affected? Sometimes it's not the appetite.
