Car break in not investigated

I came home last night to find my car lock had been drilled. I rang the Blanchardstown Garda station and reported the crime. I was asked to report the crime at the station today. I was informed that the local Gardai do not investigate car break ins anymore unless “they catch them while they are breaking in”.

It now seems the policy is that breaking into a car is not investigated in the Dublin 15 area. Any ideas on other laws that are no longer enforced? If the Gardai no longer make an attempt to investigate property crime could you tell me who has taken over this role?

If I was you I'd get that in writing and bring it to the Garda Ombudsman, I'm sure they'd be very interested in this new change in policey.

Essentially this means all cars in Dublin 15 are ripe for the picking and there's nothing that can be done about it.

That seems ridiculous - my neighbours car was overturned on our road and the guards came up took statements and actually finger printed the car. No one was every charged afaik but at least they made and effort to actually try and find the person/s.

The more I think about this the more angry I get. This sort of robbery could easily result in someone getting stabbed.

This crime is dangerous to not just property because the criminal
    1. Is engaged in a crime which means they are likely to be agitated and full of adrenaline
    2. Has a weapon in their hand in the form of a screwdriver.
    3. They are in a car area enclosed on three sides. So that anyone stumbling upon the scene will “corner” them.

These three facts mean that this sort of crime has a high likelihood of resulting in a serious injury. The fact that it is not investigated means that such an unfortunate occurrence is more likely.

This is not a new garda policy.

Ring again today and ask for a Sergeant. Tell him you were told this is a new garda policy.

    Let him investigate.

Yeah I think the Garda you talked to was having a unmotivated moment.

However The Garda at Dublin 15 still have my lawn mower when they caught its thief however to claim it I had to ring when the Garda that dealt with the case was there(in the station). As I never got him I never got my Lawn mower.

Call me silly but I though another garda could let mew know where it was

They will when theyve finished mowing the lawn.

Seriously, I wouldnt let this go. Were it any other organisation that had your property, youd ask for a higher authority till you get it sorted.

glad to hear it's not policy. However, a work colleague was told the same thing, more or less (Swords area). It was put to him that, yes, they could call out but it would take at least a few hours and it would be "pointless" as "the gougers would be long gone!" He asked could the car not be fingerprinted and was told that "we haven't the resources"

In my previous job, we got robbed, and I was assaulted, but not anything serious. A garda called four hours later, and took a statement. His advice as he left was 'claim on your insurance' and it was goodbye and good luck. We never heard another thing, and I kinda knew we wouldnt.

Yeah they just are too busy especially in Blanchardstown. Probably only have 2 patrol cars out at any one time if they are luicky. The resources just arent there.

As far as i know its the busiest station in the country. Even busier than pearse and store st stations.

In my experience you are wasting your time.
