    Post your Milsim impression here, what you currently have and what you intend to get for your impression. Milsim Impressions are an attempt to recreate a specific army's equipment from a specific time period i.e. U.S. rangers 1943-45. The kit and AEG's should be as accurate as possible and no anachranistic or retro equipment should be worn except for Airsoft safety equipment, glasses, goggles, facemask, etc.

    I want to get a British Falklands war setup together myself. Although at the moment the only parts I have is a DPM jacket and trousers!

    Long way to go with that one.

    Do you plan on getting the Kings Arms FN FAL? Actually there were rumours a while ago the KA would be doing the SLR, that'd be handy for you ;)

    Full length FAL ahoy... whenever I manage to find some employment.

    I'd sell the Famas to put money off it but I need to leave myself something for CQB. Couldn't see myself trying to get around those corners with a full length FAL! :eek:

    Not with out attaching a wheelbarrow to it or something :D

    Don't want to "Milsim" as such (well, as described in OP), but I do intend to "coordinate" as much as possible, though not (national) army- or era-specific. I guess that makes me go for the non-descript, expendable, SOF "operator" look :D

    Got so far - all in ACU Digital (per my sig):
    * US-made, mil-spec trousers
    * US-made, mil-spec close-fit T-Shirt
    * US-made, mil-spec boonie hat
    * US-made replica TRC TacVest
    * US-made replica MARPAT Knee Pads

    * US-made agency-grade gloves: darkish-olive, swat-type (outer pads, inner chamois) half-fingers

    (can't find ACU gloves anywhere - closest is either that, or nomex flight types).

    Need to find soonish in ACU:
    * 3-pt-sling
    * 2" belt (preferably with 12 bore cartridge pouches)

    Later, will get in black:
    * either helmut
    or specops "skateboarding" style helmet
    * ACU helmet cover
    * 'ambro' velcro nametags also in ACU.

    Word to the wise: keep it for HRTA and don't go walkies with your super-comfy milspex boonie hat on a lovely early summer day, unless you want some very clearly hostile looks from some not-very-Irish-looking-at-all fellas (true story at the week-end :( ).

    My Milsim impression is bang-on accurate -

    I went for the little known and ultra secret multi-national "Irish wannabe wearing surplus US pants, British shirt and baseball cap, and carrying a US rifle and Swiss pistol" look.

    You may all worship my l33t Milsim sk1llz.

    I want to get a US Vietnam era MACV and Infantry set-up, although I have a very long way to go.

    I have a vietnam issue H-strap, hunting a couple of helmets, combats, etc. and I'm emailing federalairsoft about their Inokatsu M60VN - seems the cheapest price so far by a long country mile. Just waiting for them to get back to me on a couple of answers to questions I threw back at them after the initial correspondance.

    I just need to find out the joule output - can't find much in the way of technical specs for the AEG though :-/

    Here Lemming lad I may have a spare "US ARMY USMC SWAT PASGT KEVLAR HELMET BLACK" available if you are interested.

    I'll post up the gear I am drooling over for my SS look when I get home :)

    Heh. I suspect there will be much "wtf? ... ". I also suspect that there shall be several score of customs staff that are going to need a fresh change of underwear if that puppy ever stops by en-route to me ;)

    But first I need to find out the joule output on it - I can find feck all tech details on it. Any review is either consisting of dribbling by reviewer, or in a language I can't understand

    The M60A1 (sometimes referred to as the M60VN, or just Stoner M60)

    fires at 320 fps, according to Redwolf. It doesnt specify if thats with .2g 6mm though, so drop them an email and ask perhaps ?

    Cheers for that link Shiva, shall look into it. Just out of noobish lack of knowledge, what are the implications between the differing BB rounds regarding joule output?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

    as far as i know, redwolf quote fps as being with a 0.2g bb, heavier bb's will make fps drop, lighter will make it increase, but the joule output is always the same regardless, there's a nice graph in the legality/technical info thread:

    Cheers kdouglas,

    if I've intepreted that chart right, 320fps should *just* be under the 1j barrier then?

    Yep. 1 joule with a .2g bb is 328fps.

    Now, get importing that m60! :D

    gandalf, jeeze i always loved the pea dot camo..that will look incredibly cool with the mp40 ..there is a few sites doing the reversable winter smock as well...the mouse grey or autumn colours and white on the inside.

    when i get done with my first round i was aiming at the Tan & Water Jump Smock..

    there is also a fake panzerfaust u can get..and i did bump into a guy form cork on ebay that was selling fake potato masher nades

    i will have a look around again -- i think i had a site for boots that were not outrageous in price. is it ankle or the full marching boot u are looking for??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,341 ✭✭✭Fallschirmjager

    well my milsim is

    one that i can switch from delta/devgru seals to usmc recon.. or swat

    delta helmet (need mich helmet with nvg mount and fake nvg kit for usmc)
    belleville boot (and by the way these are the most comfortable boot i have ever worn..even new, they dont cut or wear on your foot..truly amazing and excellent value for 100 dollars)
    new acu style uniform and older 3 colour style
    fake body armour
    water carrier
    chest rig for 8-12 mags..yes they carry that much
    m4 cqb
    usp compact but need newer sig p228 or 226 (depending on which rumour u believe) or mk23 with silencer
    red dot scope
    rail mounted torch
    knee pads
    gloves
    goggles

    the big downside is when u put all that on, u can barely move....how these guys carry the real kit is beyond me..

    need
    shoulder flashes
    elbow pads
    correct gloves
    devgru headset and radio (yes i am still dicking about on the radio front)
    mich helmet and fake nvg kit
    sig 226/228 or mk23 pistol and mags

    also have mp5 leg mag holder so with a black kit i could do a swat option easily as i have an mp5 folding stock version or the HRT group or the red or gold team from seals devgru hrt

    on a seperate note i also have a USCM from aliens kit (the best scifi film in the history of the universe both known and unknown!!!) dont even think of suggesting anything else...:D

    real uniform (trust me thats difficult, if anyone needs to know..i can post where to get as its made from a camo pattern no longer in existence))
    shoulder and arm flashing, need one logo still from sulacco
    body armour and leg spats but not correctly painted
    helmet cam
    boots
    real headset (super difficult to get)
    grenades
    shoulder light (working model)
    fake motion detector (unbuilt)
    m41a pulse rifle kit and thompson (i just have not the heart to bust up the thompson)
    welder kit and fake tracking watch
    incinerator kit (unbuilt)

    need
    shotgun bag from hicks character (i keep this for close encounters)
    shotty...difficult to get his model
    hand help locator
    tanio koba vp70 airsoft pistol
    savannah lighter and holder (near impossible to get but i watch for it on ebay)
    helmet and infra red accessory
    knife..and leather holder (gerber mark 2) its incredibly expensive ..goes for around 200 to 400 dollars minimum sometimes into the thousands on ebay! i need the black handled version its 1960 vietnam war era stuff with japanese lanyard knot..if u want to be really anally retentive...
    webbing
    webbing for rifle and incinerator and motion tracker
    and if i win the lotto, i will get the m56 smart gun..based on the mg42 as it happens but that runs into the thousands for the articulated arm from a studio camera, the chest harness etc and fake eye mounted scope.

    and obviously i would love the late war jump smock and fj gear...have nothing of that so far except hope and wishes...

    fiach has begun to turn me into a an ak whore HAHAHA...so i might do a spetnaz rigout at some stage..but since i hate the goddahmmed commies..i have a huge mental barrier there..LOL

    and i would love to do a sg1 kit out as well...

    Jaysus excellent would love a couple of potatoe mashers. As for the boots I would be looking at both. In the long term would want a battle dress uniform and a standard one.

    After this I'd be looking to get kitted out in WW2 GI gear but I think I will wait until the "German Project" is finished :)

    funny u should say that, cos one of the reasons i dont want to hack my thompson is i would love to do a us ww2 airborne impression also...but that is a good while off...

    i will have a hunt for the cork guy, he was doing ww2 shoulder straps..that was how i found him.

    i will hunt out the boots also, i know the ankle ones are a bit easier to find. i dont think they will be hobnailed like the originals, but at least that will save you from being crippled while running...LOL

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,341 ✭✭✭Fallschirmjager

    gandalf,

    i will have a hunt at home for the guy from cork..cant remember how i found him, i thought it was to do with fj y straps but i could be mistaken as i cant locate him now. there is a guy from poland selling them now on ebay...its a pity we cant use the firecracker one here as its against the law because if we could here is what we could play with

    http://www.airsoftscotland.com/acatalog/Fashbangs.html

    go down about half way and feel desperately sad :( they use dried peas rather then bb's...very smart idea...

    one of the sellers i was looking at for boots is no longer active,

    the other chinabest is not selling boots now and i think they were before. be advised this chaps english is not the mae west...and my chinese is non existant

    this was the type i was looking at ...but they were sellling a range of sizes

    http://www.atthefront.com/g_boots_lowboots.htm
    ..thats the type i am talking about..is that what u were thinking...??

    i know the ebay ones were around 100 dollars or so...if u do go for atthefront, remember they are US sizes...they also allow bidding on ebay if u want to try your luck..

    there is this guy a75kwk43 on ebay selling the full boot..but again they are not cheap.

    anyways..i will have a hunt at home for the irish guy and any others i may have bookmarked...i think like you the boot is the killer on cost...after the aeg obviously :D

    Lemming wrote:

    oh yes...well sort of, well heres the catch...there are excellent models of it, and i do mean excellent ones...the gun part that is ..the issue is the chest harness and the articulating arm..

    not only that but last i checked there is an airsoft mod for an mg42 with drum feed..

    the articulating arm is from those free standing movie cams, the ones they use for running shots in hollywood. that has a chest harness. last i checked to get one of then was around 15 grand give or take. lets assume 10 grand and you may not want to put an aliens movie gun on it considering with a course, you could be a hot shot camera dude in hollywood...

    u then buy an mg42, around 2 grand the airsoft model, strip it down, add on about 2 grands worth of metal and abs etc..

    add an eye piece around 600 (there was one guy i know working on a micro tv in the headset, never heard how far he got with that...)

    headset, 200 ish odd

    so unfortunately, the gun part is the cheapest...i did meet (online) a canadian guy (well i think he was canadian) and he was planning on a 1 or 2 grand articulating arm home built, but the real issue and why they are so expensive is they are all spring and couterweights, to balance out, so when you let go, you dont get slapped with 7 or 10 kilos of metal mg42 right in the face...

    still as i said, if i won the lotto, some would get a ferrari..me i would be buying an m56, christ maybe even one with a real mg42 (not in ireland obviosuly!) and let it rip...!!!

    that scene with drake and vasquez...LETS ROCK!!!! gotta be one of the coolest moments in scifi history...along with every other scene in it to be fair LOL!!!
    also as another tidbit of information. one of the reasons in the film vasquez is mexican and they all crack the joke, oh yeah someone said alien and she thought illegal alien and joined up...is a joke on the actress because she turned up for the movie dressed as a mexican worker thinking the film was about 'aliens' crossing the border into california...so the story goes. tidbit number 2..the floor plates were milk crates, the tank used was a towing vehicle from heathrow with welded plate. to this day armies of aliens kit hunters have tried in vain to find out what happened the outer shell..that is worth a fortune..it was apparently binned for a dump at the end of the shooting. and the reason the used thompsons was because the studio would not let cameron spend money on mp5's...he picked the thompson so he would have a huge flash from the barrel...there are few originals from the movie...they are worth tens of thousands now...even the rubber props...from memory, the stripped down the m41a at the end to rebuild them as a m870 shotgun with franchi spas front end, and the thompsons...this was all before the studios realised people would pay huge sums for movie parts, from small to large.

    now that i have bored the bejesus out of everyone...back on topic..as you were....

    Big round of applause to the French posties: it did go to France, and was opened by French Post/customs then reparcelled and forwarded on to Ireland.

    Got up early this morning to pick it up from PO depot before going to work - no damage or anything missing that I can see.

    First impressions (and I mean that - 2 minutes look at it, before I had to dash):
    * Keith put everything in the DBOys box (so that's 2 extra mags and an extra battery - looked a bit crowded in there)
    * Hefty, but not as heavy as I thought
    * Bit of a wobble here and there, dunno yet if everything needs/can be tightened
    * Good 'semi-matt' black finish, no scratches or flaking paint

    The agony of a day's hard graft when that sexy beast is waiting for me... :(

    Ah well... sweet agony, all the same :)

    Just bought an aimpoint red dot from eBay, so that goes in my kit list as well :)

    Couldn't fire the DBoys last night, weather too crappy (p*ss*ng down all evening, high transverse winds) :(

    Cleaned it up (styro bits everywhere + barrel clean), had a play with just about every bit of it. Mag is metal (so are the extra 2 DBoys hicap mags I got). Put simply, everything is metal, except the front handguard and the stock (both ABS) - at that, only the outer stock is ABS, the stock length adjusting 'peg' and the stock core (straight bit screwed into the receiver) are both metal. That said, the front grip feels a bit cheap - doesn't play at all, but the plastics just feel... dunno... 'not right', compared to quality of the rest. The stock not so much (even though it does feel like the same ABS - could be a question a thickness, is all) and there isn't much play at all on it, even at full extension. No rubber butt plate, just hard ABS - so gotta get one soonish.

    The metal feels good quality, not 'tin' if you know what I mean. The paint has a 'textured' feel to it (powdery, not quite 'just matt') - the entire M4 is black and the ABS colour is a very very close match.

    The barrel outer is single piece, the barrel inner extends nearly all the way to the flashhider (there goes the CQB R mod :( , will have to get shorter barrel for that), flashhider metal as well. Selector is good and solid, as is mag release, charging handle, rear sight adjusting knobs, and mag sits well in mag well with no play at all. Carrying handle removable, leaving a standard notched weaver mount underneath.

    Good weight to it, relatively easy to wield one-handed, feels nicely balanced with battery in (I'm used to real steel shotguns, wouldn't know about a real steel assault rifle, though).

    I'll upload pixes and tidy up the review in a separate thread tonight.

    I was trying to sort out a Gulf War 1 loadout but it's slightly fallen by the wayside. I've the full choc chip uniform and a chest rig but until I get that M40A1 and/or that Barret Light Fifty (I swear I will eventually get this, I have a savings fund for it) then I can't do much more.

    I need inspiration I think. At the moment my gear is a mish-mash of everything. I call it the "badly funded division" loadout.
