Exhaust repair question

While driving into work this morning, my flippin exhaust fell off.... I wouldn't mind but I'd left it in for a service less than 2 months ago. Anyway, I turned around to try and put the exhaust into the car but it was roasting hot so I just left it on the side of the road. Was this a stupid mistake?

Just wondering has anyone any idea how much this is going to cost to get replaced / repaired and would it take long if I left it into the garage?

I'm currently sounding like a boy racer in my 1996 Peugot 106.

    Thanks

I had a similar problem in a '00 fiesta a couple of years ago. I only had the car a couple of weeks, bought from a Ford dealer. The exhaust was rusted/rotted through in the middle and just fell out onto the road. I rang said dealer quite irate, expecting him to tow it free of charge as it was still within his warranty period. He refused - I ended up mangling a wire hanger that was in the boot (I was transporting all my stuff home from college at the time, so was fortunate enough to have a hanger) and used that to tie the exhaust to the underside of the car, and limped to his garage (about 10 miles away) sounding like a train.

He did replace the exhaust, claiming it would have cost 500 euros out of warranty

It could easily, my backbox costs €150, the pipe €350, the Cat €400 and that's before we get to the manifold.

Tall girl, go to a scrappy and pick up a second hand one for €40.

Exhausts rot. The are generally made of mild steel and have water in them as part of the combustion process.

If they do go it's not necessarily the fault of any garage who recently serviced the car either, unless it was blowing or the imminent failure was visible.

OP should have brought broken exhaust with him/her. It's not always necessary to replace an entire system.

most exhausts fail due to the above mentioned rot but they are also designed badly. a particular model of cars exhaust will fail in the same place.
your 106 has either fractured just before the back box or if it has a cat it could also have gone just before the cat (halfway up the car). hope it is the back box as the exhaust on that model is in only 2 pieces. the front pipe with cat built in which runs all the way to the back box (supported by only one rubber mount) and the back box itself (another 2 rubber mounts).
back box around 60 quid fitted and the front pipe about 350.
    good luck...
