From what Ive seen, Jing Gong seems to be the best without breaking the bank. Is there any other budget manufacturer of Dragunov. Does the Jing Gong have a metal gearbox?

Im also looking for an SVD scope mount, allowing me to use iron sights if needed. And what Dragunov would do without a big scope. Suggestions and links welcome for the above.

    Thanks people.

I have the JG SVD, here's a quick rundown.

Power 330-350 fps out of the box
Quite heavy, close to 10 lbs.
Isn't a real Dragunov, it's a moded AK, incorrect reciever, mags and barrel a bit shorter then the SVD.
Inner barrel is a standard AK47 length barrel with a plastic extender running up to the end of the outer barrel, accuracy very bad.

Conclusion, virtually useless in stock form.

Replace inner barrel with a 640mm tightbore, replace lower reciever with an Element metal reciever and A.C.M. SVD woodkit to eliminate creak in the rifle. Attach a CYMA AK74 scope mount to the lower reciever to take Russian optics. Drill out sight block so you can install a 9.6v battery. Replace hop-up with an Element. Do all that and it should be able to match most 1 joule sniper rifles.

Edit: It does have a metal gearbox.

Fiach thanks for the review. Sounds like a lot of work and money! Where did u get the upgrades from? Whats it like now? Post a pic if u get a chance. I have no previous experience with airsoft upgrading. What type of battery are u using?
Apologies for all the questions Bet ur sorry u replied now, lol

No problem, I don't mind answering questions :)

I haven't actually performed the upgrades yet, I have 3 mods ahead of me, an AKM, an RPK74 and the SVD :D You can get everything I mentioned from www.rsov.com they aren't as expensive as you might think, the barrel for example will only cost about $10. The most expensive being the wood furniture 73.87 Euro. Unfortunatly there is no cheap SVD at the moment that is much good out of the box and the trouble with the expensive ones is they are springers so they don't have semi auto like a real SVD.

I've fired it with the 8.4v you get with it, it does the job but with a 9.6v you'll get no trigger lag.

I think ive found the barrel, the woodstock and the AK scope mount. Cant find the Element receiver and hopup. Can you link me?

You also mentioed drilling out sight block so you can install a 9.6v battery. Was this a big job? Where on the aeg did you drill exactly? And what size/type 9.6v battery did you install after?

I haven't done any of the work on the Dragunov yet, but the area I'm talking about is the metal plate that stops the battery going down the foregrip inside the battery chamber. I haven't removed the SVD foregrip yet, it may be possible to convert without drilling, if not it'll need to be dremmeled.
