Unless you're using Parallels, your XP is not "virtual" -- it's a stand-alone OS in a different partition of the computer.
So, it seems reasonable for me to assume that you should do all your driver updating from within Windows.

If your using Bootcamp I believe the latest update has improved graphics drivers.

sounds like your using crossover office, parallels or mocrosoft virtual pc, none of which will work for games !!!!!!

Swatwolf, I think you might be better off using Bootcamp for games. Parallels is great but you can run into problems. But once set up they can both use the same partition so you get the best of both worlds.

I'm using VMWare Fusion on my Macbook and have run into similar problems playing even old games. I know the graphics card on the Macbook isn't great but it should be able to handle Age of Empires 2 right? So I'm guessing I should use Bootcamp.

The thing is, will I have to reactivate Windows again if I install it on Bootcamp? Anyone know? I heard you can only activate using the same key once every 3 months to prevent copyright infringement.

Programs like Parallels Desktop, VMWare and Crossover don't get direct access to the Macs graphics hardware, so even basic 3D isn't going to work too well. Parallels uses a driver called "Parallels Video Driver" if you check the device manager in windows.

The best option for games is Bootcamp, this way Windows get to "see" the hardware as native meaning everything works full speed.

OP: nVidia drivers won't do any good under Parallels. The driver installer should report that there is no nVidia hardware present or a similar error.

One other thing, when did apple start selling 2.7GHz Intel CPUs in their machines ? I thought the last machines they sold with 512 MB were 1.83 GHz ?? What model of Mac do you own OP ?
