Haematomas

I had a collision with a car back in March. Basically he wasn't looking where he was going and turned left up a road while I was in the bike lane and went into me. I couldn't stop in time, went into the side/back of his car, then fell over the bars of my racer and smacked my shin on the top tube of my bike. It hurt like hell but I was ok. He stopped and was a real nice man and he paid all my medical expenses.

I had a huge haematoma in my leg, a couple inches down from my knee. This haematoma covers an area of about 4 inches across and 3 inches down. It also got a pretty bad blister on it which has since healed to leave a horrible circular red scar. The leg looks fine apart from this though, you can't really tell there's a haematoma there, it's just a big numb patch on my leg. I got anti-inflammatories and codeine from my doctor and about a month after my accident I rang the doctor again after no improvement and he said it would take weeks to go down.

The problem is that it is still there. It's 3.5 months since the accident happened and my leg is still completely numb in that area. I don't want to go back to the doctor just yet because I'll probably just pay 50 euros to be told he can't do anything for me. There's no pain there so it's not a huge issue, it's just really annoying!!

I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience with a haematoma. If so, how long did it take to go down and what can I do to help it? A friend of mine had a small one in his leg and he apparently had to have physio on it and some ultrasound was applied to it to help break up the blood clot.

I'd love to hear from anyone if they can help, it doesn't seem to have got any better or any worse.

    Beks.
