Just back from a trip to Boston.
Was taken back when buying a btl of water in "duty free" that I wont be able to take it on board? Yea right I thought, I will take me chances....

Sure enough, while getting on board one has to go through a 2nd security screening when they just search your bags etc and remove any btls etc

Okay I thought, we have finally turned as paranoid as the yanks......

So, imagine my surprise then in Logan when I was able to buy a btl of water in a proper duty free facility and I even made a point of taking a sip of water from my btl as I walked past the boarding attendants without a word being said.....

So, question is, are we gone more paranoid than the americans????

    We are unfortuneately.

And if you think thats bad you should see Galway Airport sometime . I have never seen such up their hole security in all my life :( and all you would have to do is throw a hand grenade over the fence to hit the planes anyway ...so WTF are they securing ?????

I have no idea why this is now. Seems over the top to me for sure

    From the DAA Web-site :-
Can I still buy liquids, cosmetics or other substances covered by the regulations in the airport shops beyond the passenger security points, and take these on board the aircraft?

You can still buy liquids and other substances covered by the regulations, in containers of any size, after the security screening point and on board European airline flights. Liquids and gels purchased after the security screening point or on board will be packed and sealed for you in a tamper-evident bag as necessary by the shop or cabin personnel.

No interestingly enough on the BAA website:-
    Exceptions
You can 'fly with everything you buy' after security. The exception is Australia. You cannot bring in any liquids over 100ml into Australia. If you are transferring to another flight before you reach your final destination, particularly within the EU, store staff may need to place your purchases in a special sealed bag. Please note if you are flying directly to the USA or Canada, you will be allowed to carry liquids. However if you are transferring within the USA or Canada you will need to place your purchases over 100ml in your hold baggage, which all passengers have to pick up before transferring to their next flight. A few other countries may have introduced individual restrictions and our staff will be able to advise you on this.

OUR staff are to thick to advise anybody about anything ...save to say ýou can't this or you can't that . I know two elderly Irish living in england who will never fly into Galway again after their experiences there. They found the security staff and system to be simply appalling .

    SpongeBob.

who runs the airport in Galway ? Is it the local authority ? Complain Complain Complain ......if it's effecting traffic then tell the airlines.

I still think the whole liquids think is totally stupid. I know there was a threat in place blah blah blah.... but where does this arbitary 100ML limit come from ? It seems like the EU sat down and just set a limit.

After all what happens if you bring say 3 100ML containers , suddenly you have 300ML ,how much do you need for a viable bomb.

It's like the ' no sharp objects thing ' I have seen people have nail clippers removed for gods sake. Then you can go and by a 75CL bottle of wine , can a bottle not be broken and used ?

I am not a security expert by any means , but I can see so many holes its just daft

Its a limited company according to the CRO website but presume its IAA rules that they have to follow being an "international" airport now. Shame that they're so harsh it should be a lovely hassle free airport.
