I was walking by the GPO this morning when i saw a bunch of Roma gypsies all loaded up with bags and luggage being guarded by a couple of cops. There were at least twenty of them and it looked like they were waiting to be picked up and (hopefully) brought to the airport.Does anybody know what was going on or was i right in thinking the country has finally come to its senses?

Oh please, please let it be a deportation.

I'm sick to death of seeing hoards of Romanian gypo's hanging around O'Connell St. monuments these days.

I heard they were being taken on an all expenses paid holiday by government. It's what they get when there's no more free cars and houses left.

Hmm, hopefully, just wait and see how people will say it's racism that illegal immigrants are being legally deported.

Don't know that I'd class them as a menace but we already have enough of our own people begging on the streets, we certainly don't need to import them !

Let's hope there's some sort of crackdown going on and they're all on the way out. What annoys me most about them is the way they have their kids doing a lot of the begging, running up and down streets on schooldays with empty cups in their hands. What kind of parents would make their kids do that?

Well if they are getting deported then it is a fair guess that they are illegal immigrants, and deportation seems like the most likely thing that was happening at that point.

But you don't know they were being deported. It could of been a publicity stunt for a new play for all we know.

Well they cant be deported as "illegal immigrants" as they are Romanian EU citizens are they not?! so they are here legally... unless they get convicted of a crime, then they can be deported. Anyway, hate them gyppos all the same - should have different passports to 'normal' romanians.

If they were being deported, we'd already be hearing from Residents against Racism about it!

Or they could have been getting moved from their temporary Dublin residence to another one in another country, as tends to happen when asylum seekers are being processed (it's all online if any barstoolers here are bothered to read up on it, rather than just assume what your mate says is true).

As for the "can't be illegally deported if they're Romanian", you obviously haven't the first clue. Firstly, they're probably not Romanian, they're Roma. Secondly there is a visa limitation on Romanians coming to Ireland and they can be deported if they work here illegally. Of course the muppets who supported this idea don't seem to realise that once dropped off in Romania (at our expense) they're free to hop on the first flight back here - they cannot be banned from Ireland in other words.

The most logical explanation in ireland is that they were being brought off for a days pampering in powerscourt.

it's quite sad that the usual suspects on this thread are more concerned about kicking them out of the country than taking their kids off them and putting them into care. Ah well, somone else's problem eh? Oh and by the way, there's no racism on this thread, but a lot of nasty, smug comments. Slow hand clap.

No i reckon the kids will never be "normal" again after being raised as thieves, pickpockets and beggars.Kick them AND thier kids out of the country.

Actually that is an interesting point ! Why aren't the kids put into care ! It happens with irish kids often enough, does anyone know what social care policy on this is ? BTW I would favour this as it would give the kids at least a shot at getting an education and integrating and contributing to society !

Id say theyre more than likely not put into care as its probably difficult enough to get a kid taken off an irish parent, nevermind a foreign national. Either way i could care less, whatever the arguments for/against the poles/chinese/africans coming here theres good elements to all of those nationalities that come here. The roma gypsies on the other hand, im going to stick my neck out here and say that every single one of them is a theiving, begging, scamming, bastard.

Has anyone seen the guy at the traffic lights at ClareHall Shopping center (Dublin) with the gimpy leg?.

Not slagging him off, but its pretty disgusting. He hobbles up to the lights, takes off his shoe's and socks, then displays the offending gimpy limb by hanging it over the handle of the crutch then beg's and sells 'The Big Issue'.

Like I said, I'm not slagging him off but my wife and children find it upsetting, as do other's I've spoken to.

why should we do that for them?

do you think they would do that for us if we decided to move over to Romania?

anyway the only thing to blame on this is the people who let them into the EU

Because we should either deport them or deal with them, seeing as how there doesn't seem to be much deportation going on we should as a society try to deal with them, as to what they would do in Romania I don't much care as it is not my country/society I have enought to worry about with the one I'm part of.

Better off not confusing the Gypsies with Romanians. When I was first in Romania back in the late 90's the place was full of Gypsies. When I was there the last time about 2 years ago there were almost none. In that time frame Ireland seems to be a major magnet for the Gypsies. Romanians are decent people who pretty much (putting it mildly) dont like the gypsies, well that was what I found anyhow. Anyhow back to OP and the banter.
