What Im wondering is, Are the patches on the synth so I can just run it thru the Pa?

Ehm... kinda hard to understand your question. Yes there are presets on the synth, and yes you can run one through a PA/Amp with the proper connectors - there's always 1/4" connectors on the back of synths.

Thats not a bad synth, but you realise the amount of polyphony offered by it, and that it's really aimed (preset wise anyways) at Trance/Electro. What kind of covers are you doing, might be able to recommend something a bit better.

Remember, it's easy to add ban synth to a band ;)

Someting like a MicroKorg or an Alesis Micron may be well wort a look. They have good reputations and are relatively easy on the pocket.

Ok, I was talking to the singer of Disco Ensemble and he told me what synth they use, so all is good!

I would be more inclined if you were only putting synths in a couple of songs to go down the route of Reason and a midi Keyboard, you have a lot of different options that way, but it depends on how you are using them of course. What kind of songs?

And what happens then when the laptop - if you even have one - crashes mid gig? Reason costs as much as a decent s/h VA anyways, nevermind getting a half decent soundcard or laptop.

In well over 50 gigs in the last year its never been an issue, we use a bog standard laptop, connected to the PA through an M-Audio fast track. We use a Korg MS2000 as well as the Laptop.

But a set up with a laptop (if you have the laptop already) will only cost about two hundred Euro, Fast Track is around 100 and get a 25 key Midi keyboard with controls for around the same. I think its a much better option starting out If you still dont know your sound.
