Does anyone know much about these tickets..the person i spoke to in usit told me to look up the route maps on quantas.com to look at all the possibilites.. i want to fly santiago or lima to LA but thats not an option on the site. She reckons all travel agents doing round the world tickets use these route maps..

....if anyone can give me advice on places to look, or knows a way around this that would be brilliant!

    Thanks

Have a look at expedia.com... not too sure they can offer round the world tickets but they may be able to help out with that particular part of your journey...

Santiago to LA can be done directly with either Lan Chile or American Airlines. Lima to LA can be done directly with Lan Peru. These companies are all part of the One World Alliance (as is Qantas). If your RTW ticket is a One World Explorer or similar you'll be able to get those flights routed in no problem.

There are two options for round the world fares. The first is as already said the oneworld alliance of qantas, BA, aer lingus, cathay and air pacific. It is possible to take in Saniago but only via Auckland and not LA.

The Santiago to LA flights are Lan Chile and not part of the alliance. The AA flights are just codeshares and can not be used.

The other option is another group of airlines consisting Virgin, Singapore and Air New Zealand. This option rules out south america completely.

go into Trailfinders and talk to one of the people there, by far the best at providing this service imo

trailfinders all the way, myself and gf went 2 or 3 times nailing down the route, all the staff we dealt with had travelled before so they had first hand experience

but, if your planning on doing the one year work holiday anywhere along the route i would recommend not getting a round the world deal ticket because with those tickets you have to complete your journey within the year. so that means that if you plan on traveling for a bit before hand you will not be able to stay working for the full year. i found this out halfway through my trip and ended up having to just not use the last few stops on my trip and buy a new ticket home so i could stay in new zealand for the whole year.

i'm gonna look that up now. I went into trailfinders and they are really nice and accomodating....but the route i want to take is going to cost three grand and i'm not sure i want to spent that on tickets..!
