Mighty Fine is a cracking price at 2/1. course specialist in outstanding form (albeit this is a seller). should at least get a run for your money, but i expect it will do the business. think this is a better horse than some odd-on ones i have seen

I can't ever see myself backing a 13yo, unless it was running against 15yos!

My Uncle bought Mighty Fine the other day and moved it to paul blockleys yard where he has other horses. It will run friday evening at Market Rasen with Tony McCoy on board and it will take alot of beating.

Running in a Seller just after your Uncle bought him?

Thats not at all uncommon, at this time of the year it's not always easy to find a race for a lower rated horse so a seller can be the only option. Even it wins there's no gaurantees it will attract any bids at the auction, especially since the horse is a 13 year old. I wouldn't imagine there will be too many people queing up to buy a 13 year old.

Another Half Barrell in the making? :D

Funny enough i know the owners of Half Barrel and the Galway festivals are on the agenda again this year.I think its 15 or 16 years old now.

Must be 16 this year. It was 14 years old when it won at Galway and I'm sure that was two years ago... I think... cause I was at Galway last year but was in a bookies in Shannon during that race. No access to the RP's site so I can't check. 20/1 I believe it was. I had it as part of 3 winners in a lucky 15 that day, with Hulla Ballew beaten on the line in a photo finish to deny me billy big bucks.

Nice to hear it's heading to Galway again. I'll pay it a visit in the parade ring so.

Hes running tomorrow I see and they reckon he will be around 6/1 which would be a cracking price :D

Mighty Fine, yea its running sunday at Uttoxeter my uncles local track.Mark Bradburne is on it.They tried to get McCoy on it and he said he would of if Johnjos horse in the race didnt run but Johnjos horse Come out firing is running.McCoy thinks Mighty Fine will have the better chance of the two but has to ride for Johnjo as he is first jockey to him.I dont think there wont be much of 6/1 around unless you get on it early tomorrow. It should run its usual race, riding up with the pace and taking it up around the final bend. The weight shouldnt hamper it as it won with the same weight last time out but that was a selling race and this is a handicap so the race is better quality but my uncle bought the horse back for 5800 last time as there is plenty more wins in it.Also it will most likely be running over fences next week at Perth as its rated lower over fences. It should be going for a 5 timer tomorrow if it hadnt of been carried out 2 runs back when going very well so you could say its still got more wins in it as it hasnt gone up in the weights for the last win as that was a selling race.

I hope you all made a nice bit of money on Mighty Fine over the weekend as i did myself.5/1 what a great price. Its entered to run again at Uttoxeter on Tuesday night, its up in the weights again after its very impressive win the other day but i don't think the weight or its age will stop it from winning again. Its a tougher race at the moment but with the soft ground forecast alot of the dangers including Naomh Arron wont run unless the ground is good.

Yea good old Mighty Fine wins again and by 10 lenghts. That was its first run over 3 miles and now proves that it stays.the handicapper will put it up more weight now over hurdles. But I dont think he can get much higher in the weights as he is carrying 12 stone 1 as it is.He will now revert to fences for his next run.He is weighted lower over fences, somewhere around 11 stone 6 lbs.He has won 7 races over fences and acctually prefers jumping fences to hurdles so he should win again over fences next time out after his break of 2 or so weeks. If he ever goes back over hurdles they might put someone on it that could claim 3 or 4 lbs off it,someone like Tom o Brien. There is also the possiblity that it could run at the Galway festival.

Mighty Fine has been entered in the Galway Plate which is worth 200,000euro and depending on the ground and weights it might run.

    keep us informed Jock.

The weights came out today for the Galway Plate.Mighty Fine has 9 stone 8 lbs.He is number 30 on the list with only 22 runners allowed to run so he needs a good few horses to drop out to get into the race. But I think that he will as alot of the horses ahead of him have entries in other races as does Mighty Fine.He is also entered for a hurdle race and the summer plate at Market Rasen on saturday and will most likely run there. Also there is a big bonus for a horse that wins the summer plate and galway plate so he most likely will be trying for that.He is 33/1 for Galway at this moment and off near bottom weight he should run a cracking race but wheather or not he gets a run is another question.

Mighty fine second. Ran a great race.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 573 ✭✭✭The jock

Yea it ran a great race off 17lbs higher than its last run.It will go over fences next either in the Galway Plate next week or a Handicap chase at Perth early next week.

I was expecting it to run in the plate. Ran a great race tonight, got very very tired towards the end and word from ATR is that "it's not looking good for connections" which means it might be the last race we see of Mighty Fine. :(

Didn't see the race but if thats the case hes certainly done his owner and trainer proud.

Unbelievable that he was 5/1 again tonight  This is te 3rd time I've backed him and hes won at 5/1 or better...unreal given its form !

Fair play though, a truly understated horse and Im sure hes given all the connections great pleasure over the last while :)

    R.I.P.

    From Breakingnews.ie
    Tragic end for Mighty Fine
    31/07/2007 - 20:25:33

There was a sad postscript to the John Smith’s Handicap Chase at Perth this evening.

The three-mile contest went the way of the Paul Blockley-trained Mighty Fine, who gamely made all under Paddy Brennan to beat Tom Sawyer by half a length.

But the 13-year-old grey, six times a winner previously this year, collapsed and died afterwards.

Clerk of the course Anthea Morshead said: “It is a dreadful shame and I am really sorry for all the connections. But it was very, very quick. The vets were on the scene very quickly, but he was already gone.”

A tragic end to an incredible horse - I have never seen anything like it for a 13 year old - It is very sad for everybody concerned.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,757 ✭✭✭masterK

Running any horse 4 times in as many weeks over grueling distances under some testing conditions would take it's toll, even more so for a 13 year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,180 ✭✭✭samo

Really sorry to hear that, I saw he wasnt running in the Plate and was delighted to see he had won at Perth instead.

Very sorry for all the connections and was a great horse.

Yea Poor old Mighty Fine died after winning but I guess he went down fighting doing what he loved. We are all gutted as he was a great race horse and a great family pet.He put on an amazing show of jumping and he will be remembered by most.He loved to race,he would try to kick down the stable door every day to race and would if the trainer allowed him to.He wasnt as good as Desert Orchid but to us he was a superstar and was most likely heading into retirement at the end of the season.
