    Hi Guys!

I am coming home from Sydney next week and was wondering if I will be able to use the Duty Free when I get into Dublin. My Mother wants some Cigarettes that can only be Irish Bought.

I know when I arrived in Sydney there was notices up "Last Chance to avail of Duty Free"

I will be arriving from outside the EU.

Will Duty Free be available for me or will I go through a Different Area and not have access?

    Anyone know please?

You won't be able to buy it in Dublin - only airports and/or long-haul flights from outside the country.

So whats the difference if an Australian was arriving in Dublin

I'm going to take a stab in the dark here and say: different country, different rules.

Iceland is the same, you can buy duty free upon arrival. But I don't know of any other countries where you could do this. Australia is a new one to me. Anywhere else?

Lots of countries let you buy duty free on arrival. Unfortunately there is probably some bull****, obscure, revenue protecting rule to stop you doing it in the UK and Ireland.

Dubai, you can purchase smokes and gargle when you arrive in the duty , it's not the huge world famous duty free but a smaller one for arrivals.

Singapore you can buy 200 cigs, a litre of spirits going in. dirt cheap too. Leaving you can buy as much as you like.

In most duty frees, leaving you can buy all you want. The rules come into effect when you arrive in a country, you're allowed to import so much duty free. If you're flying out of Dublin and try and buy 20 litres of smirnoff black, It's not illegal as far as I know until you land somewhere, where their rules apply. Most countries its a litre, some up to two litres. Some countries, its 0 litres, so be warned!

I've been to a good few airports where you can buy on arrival. Its nice.

Most annoying thing that happened to me though, was on my way home from Dubai, but connecting through France. I could carry duty free booze into paris, but not out due to EU's hair brained counter terrorism laws. Some carriers allow you to check the booze into the hold at the gate, but I was flying Air France, who wouldn't. Had leave it all behind. *sniff*
