SD Card Problems

Hey, I'm having a bit of bother with an SD card. It's been used in a Camera. Basically, It was working fine. When It was put into the CardReader, nothing happened. No response at all. After a few tries it was put back into the Camera. It now it comes up that the card needs to be Formatted.
Any ideas what could have happened and whats the best way to solve this problem?

I see there are loads of different software packages online which state they can retrieve lost data on a SD card etc, but that's not much good if the computer wont even acknowledge that a card is attached. (I did try it on other pcs) Would these still work?

So, what are my options? Do I just format it (via the camera)? And if so, is it possible to still get the pictures back... some software state that it is.

While searching for a solution I saw a number of people talking about card corruption due to removing the card while the Camera etc was still on. That is a possibility, but I'm not sure.

    Card corruption is a possibility.

However that's not the case if the pictures still show up when you put the card back in to the camera. have you tested this?

no, when I put the card back in the Camera it is telling me that the card needs to be formatted.

thanks, ill give that a try tomorrow. But will it be able to do anything when the computer is not even recognising the card as a drive?

I had problems with sd cards a couple of weeks back ,my laptop wont read them. My card reader did though.

It's mostly got to do with the card itself ,I wreckon. I had trouble with dual voltage mmc cards last year and as soon as i got my hands on a sand disk.
    I was motoring.

Try getting a loan of a different reader ,salvage the card and then format it with your reader.

Well it might not detect the partition on it (eh if SDs have partitions), but if it's actually "detected" it will show up in that little green arrow in the taskbar that opens when you double click it.

Have had good experience with: http://www.skan.ru/en/software/n858.html . Free trial I think

nope, nothing appears.... no green arrows etc. There is a beep when I put it in and one when I pull it out. But nothing in the taskbar.

And I have tried other readers.. i.e. the reader that was initially used and the reader in my own laptop.

Lexar image rescue is the one I've had the most success with.

If you have one of those USB-SDcard adapters sometimes they work for me with oddly behaving SDcards but there is no guarantee if it will work for you.

I suggest you try recovery software and then re-format the card.
