Replay may not be on TV
    04 June 2007

It’s not yet certain that the replay of the Meath versus Dublin Leinster SFC tie will be shown live on television.

RTE chiefs have not yet decided whether they will be showing the replay as they’re already committed to showing live footage of Donegal versus Tyrone in the Ulster SFC and Cork versus Waterford in the Munster SHC on the same date.

"There is the possibility of a change but we won’t know until we meet on Tuesday to discuss it," said RTE’s Paul Byrnes.

Now there will be an even bigger scramble for tickets.

that'll change, with 400,000 viewers for the drawn game there's no way it won't be televised.

They are talking of switching it to the Saturday which would be a disaster for me as having missed Sunday's game (due to exams), I'd also miss the replay becuase of my friend's wedding!

Saturday would be great, not having to go to into work hungover on monday!!

It would make more sense to switch it to saturday and have it as a stand alone fixture, i cant see any other way around this and if the gaa dont change it there will be only one outcome and that will be murder!.Fans of both teams will not be best pleased, imagine what the scramble for tickets will be like.

Saturday would be a disaster for me.I definitely have a ticket but having it on a Saturday would mean that I'd have to start work in my other part time job at 4am til 12:30.That means I'd be like an anti-christ going to the match and would be right for the pickings after a few post match drinks.

It would also decrease value to the price of the ticket

In fairness though I don't think the GAA can really bump Donegal v Tyrone or Cork v Waterford both are massive games and would get a huge TV audience anyway.
They might be able to switch the Dublin v Meath game to a Saturday, even that though would smack of the dubs getting special treatment. The GAA should have had more sense in the first place and originally scheduled the replay for the Saturday now there'll be a big thing made out of it by the Dublin press.

Makes sense to have it on a Saturday if tv schedules are to be pleased, but if on Saturday I wont see it . Generally not a fan of football but the game last Sunday was fantastic.

Leinster Council rule out Saturday switch
    05 June 2007

RTE have not given up hope of showing the Leinster SFC quarter-final replay between Dublin and Meath live, despite being told by the Leinster Council that they won’t be bringing the clash forward by 24 hours to Saturday week.

The national broadcaster is already committed to showing live coverage of Sunday week’s Ulster SFC semi-final between Tyrone and Donegal and the Munster SHC semi-final between Cork and Waterford. The station is unlikely to risk damaging relations with Munster and Ulster officials by shelving long-agreed plans to show those games.

However, RTE bosses are determined to fit the Dublin-Meath replay into their live match schedule after over 400,000 viewers watched last Sunday’s thrilling drawn encounter which was played out before a near capacity Croke Park.

Representatives from RTE will meet with GAA chiefs on Tuesday to prevent the eagerly-awaited replay from being a television blackout, but Leinster Council chairman Liam O’Neill insisted that the game will go ahead as scheduled at 4pm on Sunday week, pointing out that the Croke Park pitch won’t be ready until then after undergoing further maintenance work.

“The replay has been fixed as part of a double-header with Louth and Wexford and there are no plans to change it to Saturday. As far as we are aware, the pitch wouldn’t be ready anyway,” he said.

And it seems that there is little chance of the game being given a teatime slot on Sunday evening, which would allow RTE to screen it live.

“The games have been fixed for 2.10 and 4.0 and the matter of playing the game later never arose,” O’Neill added

Looks like there will be a problem.I suggest RTE stream it live on their website. Its their only way of satisfying the fans without pulling out of previous commitments.

They could show delayed coverage of one of the games. AFAIR they did this for Dublin vs Wexford in 2005.

The Leinster Council may also wish to consider the opinions of the Louth, Meath and Wexford supporters before we all start saying that this is just to appease the Dubs!

Looks like streaming and deferred coverage

RTÉ may stream Dublin -v- Meath replay
    Tuesday, 5 June 2007 11:27

It now looks certain that the Dublin v Meath Leinster Championship replay will not be shown live on RTÉ Television on Sunday week.

RTÉ has already pencilled in two high profile matches for live coverage that day. Donegal will play Tyrone at 2.15pm followed by the Munster hurling championship meeting of Waterford and Cork.

The Dublin v Meath game is a huge box office attraction and RTE may stream the game live on the web and show full deferred coverage after the second live match.

I love it when a plan comes to part.:D

Well, I would still have a feeling that RTE wont rule out trying to show this match, especially as I am sure it would score really high for them on the ratings.

There will probably be a huge clammer for the match to be on the tele, and thus RTE might try and get the Lenister council to switch the game to Saturday night.

It would be very unfair to bump the other matches just because Dublin was playing. Surely with the ligths etc. (if they were even needed) at Croker, it shouldn't be a problem having the match on the Saturday evening. The worst thing they could do is have it in the afternoon on Saturday.

Hmm I think switching the game could depend on how tight the time periods are for the maintenance of the pitch

"It would be very unfair to bump the other matches just because Dublin was playing." (Kojak)

Well last time I checked Meath were playing as well

Its all based on the hype around the match and the viewing figures and ratings and the fact its a derby match.

Nah,RTE.IE is perfect in my opinion. No excuses for people not to see this match live if they want to,the only difference is you have to switch on the pc,download the program and watch....its that easy.

except if you live somewhere like ballygobackwards, where there is no broadband... :p

personally i'd love the game to be switched to Saturday as i'd be able to go... i'll be in london on the sunday.

Thanks be to christ it's deferred. Donegal/Tyrone'll be a great game, whereas I reckon Meath missed the boat big time last Sunday and'll get a nice beating of about 6 or 7 points the next day. Tír Chonaill Abú!

Donegal were blessed to get through against Armagh...expect Tyrone to beat them well.

As for Dublin Meath, it;ll be on the Sunday and won't be on TV

Tyrone seem intent on f**king their own chances up. Niall Gormley got a broken jaw in a club game and young McGuigan looks doubtful as well.

What is it with this new trend to do the county player in local league matches (á la Canning in the Galway hurling final???)

That'll be their excuse for this year too :D

Reading through this i was wondering how long it would take before a post that claims this is to benifit Dublin came up. Of course it happened eventually. All they really need to do is delay the game by a few hours. Im sure it probably isnt possible for some reason or another, also it would affect travelling fans but have the trow-in at 6pm or 7pm on Sunday. If it was an option, i think it is one they should look into altho as i said, im sure there would be factors that make it impossible. Thinking about it, they would need to delay the first game also then as im sure its not feasable to have a match at 2:10 then close the stadium, empty out the fans and reopen it 2/3 hours later which im sure cant be done. Instead then, RTE should sell the rights to Setanta/TV3/TG4 and make a bit of cash out of it also.

this is not a dig at ulster football but i know that 98% of the neutral viewers on tv after the donegal V armagh and meath V dublin game, would have far more enjoyed the dublin and meath game, fantastic stuff. not saying that RTE should drop the tyrone and donegal game but maybe show deferred coverage of that one instead.....because i just know someone will giveaway the result before i get to see the game on tv!! broadband and roscommon dont go!!

*edit* actually i just copped roscommon V sligo is that sunday, so defer the coverage il get to watch it afterwards!!

So RTÉ are showing all the matches? Hmmmmmmm, what will Setanta be showing outside of Ireland then.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Flukey

Dublin v Meath on RTE 1 and the other games on RTE 2. Dublin v Meath is to throw in at 4:15pm. I'm sure you can check what Setanta will be doing.

Excellent; something to flick back to when Meath are cruising home ;):p

Well if you's are going on previous results like Donegal V. Armagh,

WELL LAST MATCH, in 2004 Donegal walloped Tyrone and we beat them well in the League in Omagh after losing in the McKenna Cup.

The Donegal and Tyrone style will cancel each other out, more so than Armagh. It will be even dower, to watch, thats not Dooer, so we have a good chance.

Well these matchres where scheduled, it was up to the GAA to put it on Sat, to increase viewing figures overall. Most neutrals will be flicking over between channels rather than watching both. I think it was the Trbune that made the point the GAA should consider Sat matches early in the championship rather than in the qualifiers. The Premiership does it, not saying follow the Premiership for the Premierships sake, but it is a valid point.

A lot of neutrals would watch Dublin V. Meath on Sat and then the other 2 games on Sun. It would increase rather than spread the Sun audience.
