New offers for New Sky Customers

    Hi all,
My brother & his family are moving & wonder are there any offers available with sky. I've told him to leave the old sky at his previous house (renting @ moment) As sky would be better at greeting new sky customers than entertaining older one's ;)

I was having a look at some of the spam you get in your post & magazines as well, but some are based at the british market-as i dont have any in irish prices, so have a bit of an idea!

New customers: Standard Installation is free -> new subscribers until 1 July (£30 thereafter) In which i didnt know about as i thought it was just with Multiroom sub! as he's got kids to contend (cartoons in one room :) )

IN Another mag it said this:

    Sky+ costs £99
Free standard installation-if you subscribe to Multiroom. Otherwise £60

Sky+ free facilities assuming you're subbed to sky after 1st July, but what if you're subbed to them before hand, will you avail of it in July or will they charge?

    Also it says:

Use your free standard sky box
in one room & then choose a sky+/sky... in another. Is that assuming the free box you have or one they give you with the sky+ you're signing up for

Also is the multiroom sub being reduced as well

Thanks for any help received. :)

The Sky ROI site is here: http://www.sky.com/portal/site/ireland

Don't let your brother leave the Sky box and card at his old house as, after 12 months, they are his to keep. Also, he could hook up the old box to a 2nd TV and watch FTA channels (or FTV if he can get a card). This would be in addition to a new Sky subscription.

Yeah i told him that after getting one of those sky brochures in one of the sunday papers, he would have to pay a further E69 for sky box providing he takes up the multiroom sub (E130 if he didnt i think?)

The way it looks like, I think he'll make a saving if he subscribes before July 1st with installation free with multiroom (is the installation for 2 boxes-when he takes it to a new residence?)
Sky+ recording is free after July 1st so he would only get charged a half-month sub til then?

But i dont know about the extra cost as he doesnt have a phoneline yet!

As i have an added interest as i would like to upgrade to sky+ myself, (as i havent subscribed to sky for over a year as i got pissed off with all the crap footie games shown & im coming across a lot of talk about shows on satellite being a lot ahead than terrestrial :( )

But it looks like a lot cheaper to get multiroom than just getting a sky+ box as you have to pay for installation
If i did get multiroom can i unsubscribe after a few months or am i tied to it for 12mths :( & if possible i have the tv-link in the bedroom & hoping i can put the standard box there assuming i can avail off the multiroom sub

Also what do you get for referring a friend and/or do you get the discount for signing on online?

Thanks for any advice received & sorry about the raft of questions but maybe better off in one post!

Are there any opinions on the previous post?

Sky+ can't be beaten for ease of use. However you mention paying €150 for a 40GB Sky+ box? The current new boxes have 80GB of usable space (another 80GB used by Sky Anytime).

byte, when did they start giving them out?

EDIT: post edited, as i only meant to ask only about 80GB sky+, as i've no idea what UPC PVR is? & dont have cable or never will.

Giving what out? If you're referring to the UPC PVR's, they haven't as per my post.

Got a mailing from sky today - prompting me to recommend a friend.

I got two cards to give to 2 friends, each card says -

Thanks to your friend you can get Sky+ free when you join Sky TV.
Your friend is sharing their love of Sky+. If you join Sky TV before 29 June you'll get a free Sky+ box with free standard installation worth €224

All your friends have to do is join Sky before June 19 and select any package from our great enetertainment mixes. With our half price offer it'll cost from just €10.75 a month for their first two months ( normally €21.50)

Maybe someone you know got one of these in the post & will give you their card.

(Nothing in it for the existing Sky customer just as p.o.i)

That sounds great, but at moment no-one around to recommend me :( as im trying to get 2 customers set up, one of them hopefully myself, if not cheaper in July for installation. But will enquire around to see.

    Also what's p.o.i -> p*** off indefinitely ? for existing customers!

Actually you own all the Gear from Day 1. It's just there is usually a 12month contract for subscription.

Yup, correct. If you cancel within the first 12 months, you'll be expected to pay the full price of the equipment.
