    hello all,
i decided recently to start running to slim down and get fit (for the first time in my 25 years). i've been using shorts that i've had for years and which weren't suitable anyway are now nearly knackered and i'm wondering if the shorts at the above link will do?

i'm not a big fan of short shorts and although they say they're for hillwalking, i'm more happy about the length.

i'm fairly out of shape and i'm not having to do miles and miles, just half a dozen laps of the local soccer pitch is all i can do so long distance discomfort isn't a big deal at the moment.

    thoughts?

those ones are a bit too long imo. you can get 'baggy' rather than short/split running shorts from all the brand. They would be perfect for you..

Have a look at the ones David Gillick is wearing in this photo:

They seem to be suitable regarding length, and are much lighter while still giving support.

I think that for the type of training you are considering those shorts will be fine, although I wouldn't be into them myself. Seb Coe often done tough hill sessions in heavy bottoms so I wouldn't worry too much about the weight of those shorts. Perhaps when you get fitter you can upgrade to a lighter short.

I find this type very comfortable and they're not short shorts

That is surely a bit too ... erm ... close fitting for someone who is just going for a few laps around the park, although he is getting paid by Asics to wear them I suppose.
