    Hi,
Wasn't sure which forum I should ask this in. Basically my Irish cousin is moving home with his American wife and 5 kids who were born in the US. How do they go about obtaining PRSI numbers and registering for childrens allowance?

Is there anything else that they need to do or are they overlooking something?

The wife would need to bring her marrige cert and the birth certs for the children to thier local social welfare office.

Proof of address will be needed too.

Thanks folks. I should mention that his wife's mother is Irish so she would also qualify through her. Would she still need to bring a marriage cert or would her or her mother's birth cert suffice?

Does this cover everything that they would need to do to move home such as getting a PRSI number and registering for childrens allowance. Is there any other major thing that they need to do that we are forgetting about?

Your cousin will have to go along as well. They should go to their local Social Welfare office and they'll need:
    • Proof of his identity: his passport, driver's licence or birth cert. Any one will do but the more he has the better. Also he should know his PPS number, if he doesn't know it they'll be able to tell him in the Social Welfare office.
    • Proof of her identity: her passport, driver's licence or birth cert. Again, the more you have, the better
    • Proof of the kid's identity: their birth certs and/or passports.
    • Proof of residency: If she has a GNIB card or work permit, bring them along. Don't worry if she doesn't have any of these, they're not essential.
    • Proof of marriage: the marriage cert.
    • Proof of address: A recent utility bill for the address they're living at, if he or she is not named on that bill they should bring a letter written by the person named on it saying that they live there.

In each case they should have the original documents or official copies, photocopies will not be accepted.

All the info on children's allowance will be in the office, but they'll need their PPS numbers before they can apply.

Check to make sure the office you are going to handles registrations.
