Boot problems

    Hi again everyone.

I did up a 6 year old PC about 3 months back, upgrading it from 98SE to 2000 and reformatting it. Everything has been running fine until today when a dreaded BSOD arrived....

Anyway, I've tried "last known good configuration", "safe mode" and "safe mode with command prompt", however nothing works out. It just goes from the BIOS screen into the Windows 2000 driver loading list (or in the case of the normal boot, the blue logo screen) and then each time it just reverts back to this screen.

I have gone into the BIOS and checked and the default boot order is #1 CD-ROM #2 (not sure of phrasing) IDE-0 and #3 Floppy disk. I've put the 2000 installer disk into the disc drive hoping it would maybe boot from it, but to no avail. The main d: is broken, but the burner drive, e: has been working fine so I tried to load from it, but nothing is working. Is the hard drive completely screwed or is there any way around this? http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windows2000serv/reskit/prork/prhd_exe_qhzo.mspx?mfr=true doesnt fill me with hope!

Any ideas or suggestions more than welcome, cheers.

7B is usually the hard drive controller , for example if you swapped the mother board or put the drive in a different pc

have you made any hw changes recently ?

don't forget that upgrading an OEM copy of 98 means you could not use an upgrade copy of windows 2000 on any other machine, ever. you are OK though if you had a full retail version of 2000

The strangest thing is I haven't gone near the hardware or anything in the last 3 months, it's only used for web browsing and documents, so the only hardware it would be seeing would be USB pen drives...
