Are Sky+ boxes tied to their cards?

Just wondering if Sky+ boxes are tied specifically to their cards (apart from premium channels)? Say if you have one Sky+ box with a Sky+ enabled subscription card, could that card be used in another Sky+ box to record, for example, BBC1?

That's a good question!

I'm not fully sure, though according to threads on AVF, from what I can gather, you can watch recorded stuff with an unpaired card (with exception of premiums, and channels not on subscription). As for recording though... Im not sure
