    Hi

Just went wireless - set up laptop and Wii withoout a problem - wired desktop and 360 into same router - work perfectly.

Tried the DS.................not a chance this would work - i mean why should it work?

I have a 2wire router - not listed on nintendo website (of course) but their own website has instructions on how to manually set up the DS - doesn't work.

    Can anyone help?

I don't own a DS so this could be a shot in the dark, but...

I've a recollection of reading somewhere that the DS only supports WEP (64-bit Wireless Encryption) and not WPA (128-bit). Perhaps this is the problem in your case?

By the way, if it matters to you, some guys recently released a proof of concept showing that you can crack WEP encryption in less than a minute. And you don't necessarily need 57 servers to do it.

I only mention it in case you end up changing your wireless router's encryption to WEP to accomodate the DS and someone in the apartment near you (for example) is tech savvy enough to try crack it and sail along on your broadband connection! :)

Hi - The router is automatically set to WEP

Can you give a bit more info on what you've done? Otherwise it's difficult to guess what might be going wrong. It *should* be straight forward enough...

    1. Open your router's management console - if you have a PC hooked up to it via wifi or wired connection, typing the router's ip address should do the trick
    2. Open the router's Wireless configuration page. This will give you the SSID and WEP key. My WEP key is set to 128bit, works fine with my DS. Still cracks like an egg under pressure though :)
    3. Open the DS Wireless config page - set the SSID and WEP key to the values you found in step 2.
    4. Don't automatically obtain an IP address, this never seems to work on the DS. Instead, set the IP address to be the same as the Router (usually 192.168.1.XXX) but change the XXX bit to something else, say 025. This leaves the first 24 addresses open for devices that *are* able to get an automatic address by DHCP.
    5. Click on test. IF there's no connection, check to see if you've got some sort of Mac Address access control enabled. If so, on the DS Wireless page, save your settings, go back to the main page and chooes Options then System Information. This will give you your MAC address - add it to the allowed list on your router.

If it's not working, give a list of what you've done and what happened when you did it.

Hi - thanks for the reply.

I have gone to my router page but cannot see the SSID anywhere - i also can't see anywhere to set WEP to 128bit. I have previously tried the steps on my router manufacturers website for connecting to the DS - this included an SSID - it also didn't work.

tried the manufacturer SSID with IP set with 25 - getting error code 51300 as usual.

Not sure how to to do Step 5.

What type of router have you got? (ie which 2Wire model, the 2701? 2070?)

Looking through the documentation for their routers, the SSID will be listed on the Home Network page as "Network Name". You can set a 64bit or 128bit encryption key by setting the option for "Use custom Encryption Key" and entering a 10 digit Hex code (ie each digit can be a number from 0-9 or a letter from A-F) for 64bit or a 26digit hex code for 128bit. You will have to make one up yourself though! The current WEP key that's in use should be on a sticker on the bottom of the router, best to stick with that for the moment.

On the Wireless \ Advanced \ Home Network tab you should be able to see what IP range it's using - look at the Current Settings box, in there is the DHCP range. Give your DS an address that's near the low-end of the range (say it's 192.168.0.1-192.168.0.255, you'd pick something like 192.168.0.10)

    Hi

    It's a 2700.

Found the SSID - was using the right one and the WEP key is fine.

My DHCP Range: 192.168.1.64 - 192.168.1.253 - so I set DS IP to: 192.168.1.74 and then used the other settings from the 2Wire website - still getting same error.

After many weeks of trying various solutions I have given up - using the DS online is not worth the effort - if anyone does come up with a solution, please let me know

Well, if that's your DHCP range, then you shouldn't be trying to set your DS to an IP within it. The fixed IP you give your DS should be OUTSIDE that range (try 192.168.1.27). The whole point of DHCP is that it reserves that IP range for PC's / devices that don't have fixed IPs.

Mightn't solve your problem, but worth a shot! :)

    On the DS

    Enter you WEP Key

On the Auto obtain IP Address option select no

Enter you IP address but replace the last digits with 12 (so if your IP is 192.168.1.254 that would be 192.168.1.12)

Enter your subnet mask (should be 255.255.255.0)

In the Gateway field entire your unaltered IP instead of your gateway (In this example that would be 192.168.1.254)
Enter you Primary and Secondary DNS.

Test connection to see if it worked,
