I'm posting this cz I think I need to start budgeting..!Was talking to my friend about how many outgoings I have this month, and when I told her what I'd normally spend in a week she was mortified!!

So I thought I'd put a post up to check if Im really that bad:eek: I spend about 200Euro a week on food, going out,bit and bobs etc. So basically every month I minus 800 euro from my salary along with my rent and bills for living expenses. I really need to budget more now though cz my necessary outgoings have increased:eek:

So humour me...how much would you spend in a week? pleeeassse say more than me!:D

Food and drink for me is e100 a week. Some weeks a bit more or less as you do need to have a big night/event/meal out now and then.

Jesus Christ, you're Champagne Charlie compared to ol' Walter Water here! Since I'm on Work Experience I only get paid €280 and this is how it breaks down a week for me.

€100 on rent (Excluding ESB bills)
€60 Tax (which should be sorted any day now.....or not)
€40 to get TO and FROM where I'm living
    €40 - €60 on the weekend
€20 - €40 to live on for food and fags for the entire week

Since the PAYE has been taking €60 off me for the past 3 weeks I run out of money by Tuesday so I have to go to Tesco on Sundays and buy food that will last. Suprisingly it amazing how much food you can get for €15, though I recommend not investing on Tesco Value Chicken Roll. 30 slices, yeah, but the reformed chicken at the top of the pack is a turn-off (I saw it AFTER I ate the stuff :()

You probably haven't guessed it by now but I hate Work Experience!!

50 on food, up to 130 on poker buy-ins(but this usually makes me money), drink rarely. That's about it apart from ESB of 50 for 2 months and rent of 320 a month.

You didnt mentioned you are single or not
Also u didnt mention u live with ur "MUM and DAD" or u rent a place ?

I think you are spending a bit too much
It also depends on how much salary you get.

So my judgement might not reflect the truse picture without taking the count of above. But i would say 800 every month is a bit too much i would say under 500 should be ok

And its managable i know !

When I was a few years younger and living in Ireland I was spending over €2k a month on partying & boozing :o Don't think there was ever food in the house and usually had to get a taxi to work hungover! But as I got older I got wiser, about €500 a month now, and I'm all the more healthier for it :)

about 100 per week...but im a student and live at home so its probably pretty bad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,986 ✭✭✭Red Hand

70-85 on food, drink rarely (alot tonight though since its my last day at work), 70 a week on rent...the rest is frittered away on books, internet, cinema, petrol (about 20-30).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,660 ✭✭✭G86

wow lola is that 500 per week?!!!

Hmm..well I guess I spend alot on food cz Im v.picky..and eat alot of organic etc. Per month, it breaks down like this:

    rent 550
    living expenses 800
    Bills 50
    Driving lessons 120
    Singing lessons120
    Gym 20
    PT 320(New expense..hence the need to budget~!)
Credit card 300(but I end up taking this out again!don't ask me where it goes!)

and now Im gonna be adding dentist on to that next mth cz I've some work to get done, argh!!!!

Well done to the dude on work exp..I've been through that..it sucks:(

There is probably some sort of correlation that exists somewhere that states that the more you earn the more you spend without realising it.

When I earned a hundred pounds a week 11 years ago on work experience I got by on that no problem, When I earned a little more I got by on that no problem and so on. Now that I have a decent wage it's hard to imagine (even accounting for inflation and stuff) living on as little as I did years ago.

Also, as a poker player, money has lost a lot of the value it had to me. I don't think anything odd about having 2 grand in my wallet when paying for my sandwich at lunch, or about having a month where I just spent 4 grand on the flipside. It is all about perspective.

why would she be mortified as opposed to horrified?
YOU should be mortified at spending so much
20 is more reasonable, 50 at most
unless you can really afford it and that's nothing to you, but i dont think it is
    spend a lot less
think about a sandwich being 5 euro to buy it out, when a loaf of bread is only around 2e

Sorry for the lack of info, I live with my boyf, and my wages vary cz of commission.usually 2200 - 2500. Its hard to judge cz one mth I got 3000 cz of commission but its more towards the 2200 this month...

    rent €90
    food €40
public transport €55 although if I don't go home at the weekend it's €20
going out and booze - varies wildly from week to week. Last week must have been €200 or more but that's because there was a birthday and a few other things that I had to go out for. Average €100
ESB and the like don't know yet as I haven't gotten a bill since I moved in. Hopefully not too bad as there is a load of us in the house.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 230 ✭✭BigTommyBomb

I'd say if I earned a good bit more I would increase spending but only to a limited extent. I just get off on making money stretch and then having lots left over at the end of the month to spend on interesting things rather than just blindly piss it away at the start of the month.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,789 ✭✭✭✭ScumLord

Your all so froogle. I spend on average, on drink and a bit of smoke every weekend nearly €200. Two weeks ago I spent the guts of €400 over a weekend and I live in a small town so I'm probably paying the least for drinks.

It's got to stop though I'm supposed to be building a house soon and need to get my finances under control.

Ah now..be realistic!! 20 euro a week?!!! My train rides alone amount to that!!!:D

That's more or less what I've been on for the past 3 weeks. I've been reduced to the horrible decision of "Hmmm, I've only a few quid left....Fags or food?" That being said though, I'm an average €80 - €100 a week

Seriously? 20 euro isn't even bus fare for the week.
Do you ever go out? A saturday night in the pub could cost 60 euro or more.
A cinema trip is 9 euro. Food (breakfast/lunch/dinner) for 7 days costs a lot more than 20 euro!

I don't know anyone who could survive on 20 euro a week.

well food costs me about 100 euro a week btw lunch at work and buying food for home. For example..I don't drink milk..I buy rice milk. Normal milk 2litres is what..a euro? Rice milk one litre is 2.53. Just little things add up I guess. But hey dont attack me for it:p I just though it would be an interestng thread to see what other ppl spend!d

the rest would be spent on going out, cinema etc but I don't drink much so hardly any spent on that.

The bus is more than 20 to and from work, train costs 40, luas, dart, food, cinema, a drink, how much is that? :)

Move on to the more expensive oat milk g86.

Thats where people differ. A night in the pub for me would be probably a tenner or less. But that would only just be two hours at peak time and then off to a party somewhere.

I misread the OP and thought it meant buying lunch during the week and things like that, not including food and full bus fare.

If you don't drink much, what is the "going out" other than cinema going on? it's 80 euro, yeah ?
A saturday night in the pub could cost 60 euro or more.
Not for me, but I drink a lot less than most

Yeah, it's €500 per week, not including mortgage and bills. I'm a disaster really. Always broke before payday because i've spent all my money on clothes and stuff. But it makes me happy to shop!

Personally I think I spend somewhere around 100 & another 100 on rent a week. You can probably add another 100-200 over a month which will go either on clothes or something shiny.

Stuff that I can think of off the top of my head.
    rent €100
    Food €40 (circa)
    Buses €15
    Petrol €20
    Sports €10
Drink: varies from nothing to 100.

well dont drink much but I still go out so theres taxis to pay for and whatever drink I have, even if Im out drinking though I'd rarely spend more than 50eur.. then theres cinema once a week...and going away at the weekends(bus/train fares again)

Although I must admit I do sometimes end up 'browsing' on grafton street......
aw man....ye are all making me feel so guilty!!!!:o

Is €500 a week really bad or something?
    Here's an example of last weeks spending;
Monday: €10 for phone credit, €30 food
Tuesday: €7 for smokes, €10 for lunch, €40 in boots chemist
    Wednesday: €40 make-up, €15 wine and chinese
Thursday: €70 out drinking, €30 new top
    Friday: €200 on clothes
    Saturday:€22 on a new top, €80 in out drinking/eating
Sunday: €20 petrol, €40 for food, €15 in the cinema

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,165 ✭✭✭✭brianthebard

Between 60 and 100 depending on the week. I paid all my rent and bills at the start of the semester though, that works out at about 85 per week as well. So close to 200 a week I guess.

So you can spend all this and you still have your mortgage and bills to pay on top of it. Lucky you..... you must have a really good well paying job...
    Dont suppose theres any vacancies;)

I'd say I burn through about four or five hundred a week on food/entertainment etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60 ✭✭MrSquishSquash

I get about e340 a week(work experience) and since i started never been so poor in my life probably cause i'm saving for next year!

So here's how it breaks down:

    Rent e85 now - down to e50 in a week(summer rates! :) )
Food e45 - (subsidised canteen & some shopping)
    Pub & Offie - e80 to e90 ( generally two days a week i'd head out!)
    Extra's - e10 to e20 (cinema or something)
Save - e120 soon to be e150 (see Rent!)

It's hard going some weeks, going out costs a fortune & this weekend's going to be no exception!

I'd say I spend about 20 quid per week provided I don't go out...

Plus bringing your own lunch to college saves you an absolute fortune, I dunno why more people don't do it?

    Eh....
    E8 a day on food in work - E40
Eat dinner in the gf's four/six days a week - about E20 in total on food the other days.
    E60 on booze
    anoth E30-50 on incidentals...

So about E150. Which works out fine. Add in rent and bills and my total outgoings in a month come to about E1200.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 281 ✭✭Jonesy3110

I spend maybe €100 a week on food lunches and transport.
Then I spend about anything from around €5 - €100 on comics on a Thursday, then rent is about €100 and then the rest of my wages disappears into some sort of void that’s opened up in my wallet. Bye bye wages, I hardly got to know you before you were so cruelly taken away!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,401 ✭✭✭✭Anti

    62.50 on rent.
    49.00 on Fags.
    75.00 Beer.
    20.00 luas
    50ish food.
    100ish cloths.
100/200ish tech goodies. Alot more this week though :( about 500 or so.

So 500€ a week give or take :(

Jasus f*cking christ. I need to sort that out. Thats just wasted money.

After boring things like mortgage/rent & bills etc, I get through about 800-1000 a week. Money burns a hole in my pocket unfortunately but then, no hearse comes with a trailer so might as well enjoy it!

PS - what does everyone do with the surplus they have every month if they're not spending it?

Well, I guess if I average out the house bills for the 2 months over a weekly basis it goes :

Bills (Bord Gais, Eircom, ESB) - € 40
    Lunch - € 0 (I don't eat lunches)
    Dinners - € 40
Petrol - €0 (Thankfully, company car)
    Nights out (Cinema, etc) - € 40

So, I dunno, €120 a week or thereabouts.

I'd be on the 400 Euro mark too
    90 rent
    200 booze
    50 food
    60 transport/bills etc..
