Japanese version of Resi 4 Wii has been released and works fine on modified Wiis.

I've played it for a few minutes and I'm quite happy with the way that they've translated the wiimote to the classic GC game.

All the ingame audio is English :)

    Game on!

    Mike

But would you say it's worth it if one already had the GC version? I'm probably gonna get it for the extras and to actually have a reason to play my Wii!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,870 ✭✭✭mikeruurds

I have the original on the GC and I'd definitely by the Wii edition just to play Resi 4 with the wiimote.

If you hadn't just got it for free, you mean?

Haven't they confirmed the European price? Isn't it discouraging?

Well, I can officially halt my quest to find a copy on Gamecube. June 29th is it?

£29.99 rrp according to play (compared to other new games at £39.99)

It'll cost €45 in smyths (less if you have a loyalty card) and €39 on play... I don't mind shelling out that much

Well i sold my GC copy of Resi 4 there a few months ago so I'll put that money towards buying this. Hopefully the controls will work as well as I hope they will

The best thing about this is that this is supposed to be the best version of it.

cant wait for this! did i read somewhere that there's no zombies? odd!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

Yep... instead of zombies it's rural Spaniards infected with parasites.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,561 ✭✭✭Rhyme

    Spaniards
Let's call them Iberians to play it safe ;)

The only pointed indications that it's set there is the currency, curses and that
    Luis mentions Barcelona.

Yes, you're right... it wasn't Barcelona at all.

Never got it for GC, had it on PS2 but only played it for a while so im getting it for Wii. It needs a decent shooting game even if its a 3rd generation port.

Only problem with Biohazard4 is that the violence has been toned down. I kid you not.
Gone are the days where Resident Evil in PAL territories was hamstrung as the worst of the gore was removed while our Japanese brethren got the full monty, no now its all flipped upside the head with things like chainsaw decapitations and headshots being sanitised, you'll have to buy the Euro or US versions to get the violent content of the GC edition, go figure!

On a brighter note, the game does feel remarkable to play and still looks awesome, the control of the weapons via the Wiimote is spot on and connects you to the action in a way the GC pad never could.
Also there's a nice trailer for Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles.

    Also in seperate ways
Wesker's screen is shown displaying a map of the world with crosshairs focused on Spain
    .

What are the graphics like in the Wii version? I remember the GC version looked great on a normal tv but playing it on a 100hz tv or hdtv was a different story and the game looked horrible, full of flicker etc. Has this been fixed for the Wii version?

Im sure it will look better if you have component cables.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 17,069 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

RE4 for the gamecube still looks horrible runnin on a hdtv playing from a wii using component cables, other gc games like metroid looked great on it but for some reason RE4 realy looks bad on a hdtv. I hope thre is some sort of improvement with the wii version of the game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,566 ✭✭✭GrumPy

I never finished re4 on the cube (I know, I know) playing through normal composite connections onto a hdtv and it looks pretty nasty (gamecube, using freeloader to play NTSC version)

If I know for sure re4 on the wii, connected to my hdtv using component would look much better, I would deffo pick up. What do people reckon? think it will look any better?

I'm sure the horrible widescreen borders will be replaced by a proper widescreen mode and there will almost definitely be a 480p option. Resi 4 looks awful on a HDTV because the borders mean it's actually in a lower res than most GC games. Even on a standard TV if you stretch the screen to fill the screen it looks a bit dodgy.

Here's a video comparing the Gamecube and Wii versions...

The Wii crosshair probably makes the game alot easier. Im not sure how I feel about that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,566 ✭✭✭GrumPy

Think I will fire up the cube, connected to hdtv with composite cables, running the NTSC realese of the game using freeloader and get stuck back into it. Only problem is, my eyes will BLEED now that I am used to 360 gaming. :( But even if I wasn't my eyes would bleed a fair bit anyways.

Why would the decapitation squence be removed? That seems odd.

It' just japanese censorship cracking down a bit. You can't show decapitations in videogames in japan anymore. However don't worry, there were none in the original Resi 4 in japan either so I'd put money on them being in the US and PAL releases.

Maybe that only happens on a certain difficulty level? I wouldn't know if there is anything beyond the two difficulty levels you start off with because Krauser keeps mercilessly killing me on the harder difficulty.

Saying that I'm still buying it.

Looks identical to the GC. Tempted mind, if even just for the wiimote. I'd say it'd be great fun, and probs more frantic and tense during the "zombie" onslaught parts.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 17,069 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

Apparently they have messed up Resident Evil 4 for the wii, same game but with dodgy controls using the wiimote.

According to one review. All the other reviews say the opposite (38/40 from Famitsu, for example). User feedback says the opposite. I'll see for myself at the end of the month, but based on what I've read and seen I think the EG review is quite inaccurate.
