I just listened to his new album twice through. What the hell happened to Chris Cornell?

This entire album is completely devoid of testosterone and the usual force his songs have. I think he lost his balls or something because this is basically a collection of ballads with worse than bad lyrics.

I am a big fan of his but this is one of the worst albums I have ever bought.

Does anybody have any thoughts on the album?

Haven't heard it, but he lost me after Superunknown. Everything I've heard of his since then has been dull at best.

Down on the upside is pretty good too though. Because of Overfloater and No Attention mainly. I also think its the best work Matt Cameron ever did. This new one is seriously heartless.I think Audioslave are the exact same. Chris Cornell has seriously regressed in my opinion.

Maybe he just wanted to do something different, ie a collection of ballads that would appeal to different people, which is why he did it as a solo project.

Yeah i can see that view too. However for someone who is usually extremely skilled with lyrics, i just think the lyrics are below his usual standard...

Have not heard his stuff, other than the Bond song... I will see him at the Aerosmith concert though.

After 5 listens I am still very disappointed. His voice is fantastic since giving up the fags but I will agree that this is missing his usual ballsy tunes. I wouldnt say that its a bad album but just not what I was expecting especially after hearing the unplugged session in Sweden.

Euphoria Morning is one of my favourite albums and I was hoping for a follow up. Although I think Eleven had a lot to do with the sounding of that record.

Chris is definately going down the commercial road with this record mores the pity. As I said its not a bad album just not as rocking as I hoped.

Still looking forward to Aerosmith, hoping for Seasons and Billie Jean although his sets have been fantastic.
Below is the setlist from his Paris gig:

    Spoonman
    Outshined
    Original Fire
    She'll never be your man
    What you are
    No such thing
    Hunger strike
    Seasons
    I am the highway
    Can't change me
    Doesn't remind me
    You know my name
    Billie Jean
    Rusty cage
    Cochise
    Mission
    Jesus Christ pose
    Call me a dog
    Redemption song
    Say Hello to heaven
    Black hole sun
    Like a stone

Haven't heard it yet, but I remember him saying he was going to do a more acoustic solo album this time - apparently he felt that's what the fans wanted and he didn't deliver on with Euphoria Morning.

Pissed off he's not doing his own gig in Dublin - I have to pay into Aerosmith to see Chris Cornell, in Marlay Park of all places! I'd much rather a smaller venue and a full show from Cornell... what is it with my favourite acts coming to Ireland this year and supporting other bands?!!

I've been listening to this today and sadly, I'm none too impressed by it. There are no real stand out tracks on it.

The Casino Royale theme "You Know My Name" is not a band James Bond theme, but it actually doesn't fit in with the other songs on the album. It just sounds funny.

There is a great cover of Billy Jean, but the novelty soon wears off. I'll stick with Euphoria Morning.

I think he should be shot for that cover... the rest of the album is ok, nowhere near as good as the Soundgarden/Audioslave stuff.

Soundgarden. He had the greatest singing voice of the 90's in my opinion. Easily the best.

    I'm so sad :(

I never even knew he smoked, I have to say I think his voice has gotten worse over the years :P

Havent heard his solo stuff, but his work with Soundgarden was great. Love nearly every bit of it. Not sure about the best voice of the '90s, but most certainly up there with the best, most recognisable voices.

Was never a major fan of Audioslave, but their work consistantly went downhill I think.

He lost the magic after leaving Soundgarden imo. Ya just need Kim Thayil anyway.............

Always thought he was vastly overrated myself.I could never warm to his voice, although I did like Soundgarden.

Audioslave held no appeal whatsoever for me.

Ah Matt Cameron is really good too. Pearl Jam are sounding great with him drumming and live he was excellent too.

I have to agree with what the other poster said about Audioslave going downhill. I think their debut was meant to sound like Rage+Cornell t break the ice but now I think its just become a load of crap. I mean Out Of Exile had one good song, that being "Out Of Exile" and the rest was toss. The new album also has one good song, that being "Moth". Such a pity :(

Yeah - have given it a few listens and it's quite weak - there are one or two decent tracks on it, but nothing special.

Billie Jean is poorly re-constructed too - certain lines sound rushed and the tune kind of chops and changes... nice idea, but doesn't work!

Oh - and I do disagree that he's been shít since Soundgarden - I think Euphoria Morning has some cracking tracks on it, but his output has gotten progressively worse since starting Audioslave and I can only hope that this album is him getting the last of this out of his system (although so far Carry On is better than Revelations, so that's a good sign that he's on the way up rather than down!)

personally i think it's a cracking album, although it does fade a little towards the end.
really cant understand how so many people here dont like it ?

Yea.. bought it last week.. didn't blow me away...
in fact, I totally lost interest after a few tracks. I didn't even know he was playin with Aerosmith. I'll definately go to that, I'd say. good to see the Temple of The Dog, Audioslave and Soundgarden songs on the setlist

Very disappointed with the album. Will still go and see him in Marly Park. Good to see he playing his old matieral and not boring us to death with his new "matieral"
