Doctor Who will reportedly be exterminated next year after the end of the fourth season of the revived series.

Producer Russell T. Davies has decided to bring the hit sci-fi show to a close so he can concentrate on other projects, The Sun reports . The paper adds that Davies and other senior staff are feeling the strain of the heavy workload imposed by the show — nine months a year of 16-hour days — and plan to resign en-masse.

Bah. The Sun. They were reporting Freema had been axed the other day. i seriously suspect that somone in the DW office trod on The Sun's toes and now The Sun is having a field day on them.

RTD couldn't axe the show. Only the BBC can - he's just a producer after all. Even if he decided to go, the BBC could replace him at will.

Quite so, The Dr will last longer than anyone involved with it. Its a money-spinner for Auntie I belive.

Ah, I wasn't aware. I only noticed the story this morning when El Reg's RSS threw it in front of me.

Well, I was pretty sure he wasn't acting alone. It had occured to me that he might find some way to wrap things up with the Beebs permission.

Why would they though, they can always rest it for a year or two then come back (after the Blakes 7 revival!).

Yeah I saw all this over on Digital Spy and outpost Gallifrey and it's pure baloney. Who must easily be the biggest money spinner the BBC has at the monent in terms of Merchandise and DVD sales there's no way they are going to end it. If it is anything it could well be end-of-contract drama from RTD and his gang.
