    Hi Guys,

I am part of a team building a new GAA community based site and we have a "Pitch Finder" section, the idea behind this is that if you ever have to travel to a ground you have never been to you can use the pitch finder to find everything from directions to the best pint of Guinness!

We can offer something in return for the information but if you contact me via e-mail at chris@squareball.com or even private message i will give you more details then.

We will choose the best description for each ground so send as many as you like. So far we have descriptions for:

    - Healy Park / Tyrone
    - Parnell Park / Dublin

    We need the following information:

    - Brief Description of general ground information
    - Parking and Travel info
    - Best Pubs and Restaurants

Thanks and i hope you can help!

Wikipedia is not bad for details on the grounds, certainly has a lot of info on McHale Park in castlebar.

Not a bad idea. Only last Saturday i had a guy pull over asking me for directions to Ballyboden St Endas. He was quite far from it but lukily he said afterwards it was in St Endas Park which was a 20 drive. Nearly sent him 15 mins in the wrong direction! Are you looking for club grounds also i presume? If so i can send you something for Boden and maybe St Johns as thats close to where i live also.

Maybe this could be of some use to you OP.

Hoganstand has a facility whereby most GAA clubs in the country can upload a link to their own personal website. Granted it doesn't have a website for EVERY club in the country, but it could cut your amount of work down a bit.

I am sure that most club's websites would say where they are based.

    Hope this helps...

This would be ideal for a mashup with Google maps, which now has a pretty decent set of roads for Ireland.

    Thanks for all replys...

We actually use Yahoo maps with our own custom placed markers and the like. It is working well.

I dont want to be advertising but the link for the pitch finder can be found at http://www.squareball.com/club-county/pitch-finder/.

If you have a look above you will see what information i mean.

In reply to the previous post we only need the COUNTY grounds...for example Dublin > Croke Park and Parnell Park...for Cork > Pairc Ui Rinn and so forth.

It is gonna be a slow process but we think it'll be a good resource for all to use.

So if any of you guys commute or live near any county ground get your description in there and it will be used by the whole country!!

    Thanks again

For anyone from Co Monaghan heading for Newry via Dundalk next Sunday you could be delayed big time on the main Dublin Belfast road outside Dundalk and on the Newry hill.

Went to the Cavan game and had to turn back and go via Omeath (take Carlingford road at Ballymacscanlon roundabout) because of the traffic jam. Park at the shopping centres in Newry and it is a 15 min walk, very difficult to get parking near the ground.
