Injury driving me insane

I am currently out of action due to a severe back injury. Before this i would have gone to the gym 4/5 times a week. I am starting to go insane. I used to get depressed when i only made the gym a couple of times a week.
So I was told I could start swimming. I live in Harolds cross, work just off Grafton St. Are there any pools Camden st or nearby i could pay as you go for a swim. I know there is the mercantile down Tara St but i dont really like it plus its way outta my way.

    Any info would be great.

Also anyone suggest anything else i could to do with regards exercise. I cant do even the basics, running etc so its hard to come up with anything.

Pilates is fantastic for bad backs. Contact the National Training Centre or the local gyms for any beginners classes in your area. Trust me it's not as easy as it looks.....

Recommendations really depend on the injury....

surely cycling would be ok with a bad back??? no impact and all that

cycling is actually quite agressive on your lower back. Being bent over for an extended time puts a good bit of stress on the region.

    Monkey,
Good luck with your recovery. The trinity pool is lovely but I think it's expensive if you're not a member.

Cheers, Ill try that out. For the person who asked what the injury is, its hard to explain but basically all the muscles in my back, pelvis are a mess. I am in pain all the time, except for when lying down. A mixture of football injuries, coupled with years of abuse from weight lifting.

    hey monkey.

there is a physio on collins ave. she is excellent she will do ultra sound and see what is going on. i am in the same boat as you and know your pain.
have seen her a couple of times now and starting to feel better.
thats after having plenty of traction and other physio and nothing worked.

    well worth a try.
pm me if you want the phone number

Sounds like the typical back injury so!! (and one I know the pain of only too well). When the muscles around your hips, glutes and lower back get dysfunctional you're in a whole world of ****. THe great thing is tho that provided there's no skeletal damage you should definately be able to sort it out and get back training.

Seriously, check out a good physio and they'llget you on the road to recovery. I don't know how valuable ultra sound or anything along those lines would be tho tbh. The physios I use are used to working with natinoal and internation atheletes/rugby players etc... so their rehab methods are quite aggressive but they've never steered me wrong and if it wasn't for them I wouldn't be where I was today.

finding yourself a good physio that you can rely on to fix you is worth it's weight in gold.
