A tale of two JJs....

SE WSOP qualifier last night- Theres only 3 prizes on offer.
    1st prize is 10k package, 2nd is 2100, 3rd is 1050

Hand 1: Down to 3 tables playin 6 handed and i'm fairly short stacked at
    7100

    Blinds are 300/600 with a 100 ante

Jay O Toole jams it from the CO for 5900

Button beats Jay into the pot for 7800, so quick that Jay says "Ah oh"

I'm in the BB with JJ

Jay has been fairly quiet. He's 3bet from the blinds a couple of times,
but hasnt got out of line during normal play and has shown down some good
    hands.
The button has been playin very tight but becoming a bit agitated with not
    getting hand,
so his range should be big pairs or AK but could include worse holdings. I
    put Jay on AK
    here 90% of the time

Hand 2: Down to 2 tables playing 8 handed and again i'm short stacked at
    6300

    Blinds are 400/800 with a 100 ante

Folded to the button who raises to 2500

SB instashoves all in for 9000

I'm in the BB with JJ again

Button is a regular tournament player. He's very tight and doesnt put
    pressure
on people or play his position as much as he should. Even opening from the
button i expect him to be strong. I've only seen the SB play 2 hands in 45
    mins
He took 1 pot down with a raise and the other he jammed UTG with AJ and
    doubled
up through 99. I'm unsure of his range here but it should be strong.

Does the fact that we are playin for mainly 1 prize (2nd and 3rd a small
consolation but i'm really after 1st) affect how you play JJ? Are you happy
to risk it here knowing you could be in bad shape or are you content to
fold and maybe pick up some
uncontested pots and make the push with JJ rather than calling a 3bet?

Its so easy to put both players on AK each time and make the call for which
you would be in great shape against just 2 overcards. I'd be interested to hear opinions

You're still a distance from the money, so personally I wouldn't be letting that influence my decision. I'd still just be trying to get the chips in in decent spots.

    Hand 1, I can find a call.

Hand 2, I don't like as much at all. One of those hands where I'd have to be there. The problem is you're really short, so if I though this was even marginal I might take it on as it might be as good a gamble as you're going to get (and it's all gambling from here on in).

BTW, do you find yourself putting people on overcards a lot just to justify making calls? I get that impression a bit from your post.

Id take the gamble both times in this type of tourney

Who said i called in either of these hands??

whats the average stack in both hands??

regardless i think im folding both hands

id rather be getting your chips across the line first, you have a round of the table to pick a spot when the sb goes past you

I'm not sure exactly the average. Theres maybe 355k chips in play so with 18 left the average is ~20k and with 16 left ~22k

In the 2nd hand i reckon the other table has 75% of the chips in play so despite being short, 1 double up maybe puts me 3rd in chips at that table

Nobody (myself included). It was just a general comment, made due to the impression I got:

In the first case, 90% is a big assumption to make.

I was wondering where and how this was decided upon myself??

How can you say he doesn't have AA, KK, QQ, AQs, 1010??

My mistake for putting an approx figure on it. Jay plays his big pairs to a raise. He's not pushing for 10 BBs with AA,KK or QQ because he wants a call with these and a chance to accumulate chips. He'd played 99 and 88 differently so his push UTG stunk of a bet that is willing to pick up the blinds but should he be called he's in with a shout and at least a 50/50

When he was reriased immediately, he hadnt even got all his chips in the pot as he cried out "Ah oh" (As in Poo from the teletubbies). He's not saying this if he has AA or KK. I dont think its a bad assumption to narrow his range to what my read is. Without a shadow of a doubt, i'm calling him should the button not make the reriase over the top.

    Wow 2 very tough decisions!

    Id probobly fold hand 1.

In hand 2 I think you need to get some chips as its only paying top 3. Think you should throw it all in and hoping to see 2 overcards.

edit - Just read your post about 75% of chips at one table.

Having said that , I think id still push wit JJ

I use to love that programme........ :p

Tony i think hand 1 is a fold, i know you've a read but there will be better spots to get your chips in hmmmm like hand 2, i feel you can call in this situation as your short-stacked [6300], if you take down this pot you'll be sitting on nearly 30k assuming the button has both the small & big blind covered...... SHIP IT
