I'm not that great a judge with my eye, but I'd say 25-28% maybe.

Generally 8-20% is easy enough to tell, either side of that tho and it gets tricky.

BF% is just a number mate - all you need to know is that it's too high and alot of it looks to be visceral fat (around your organs rather than just under your skin) which is generally considered worse for your health.

What's your plan for dealing with it?

I agree with both of the posts above.

    Whats the plan?

Tbh I need a shoe to be accurate.

Don't get caught up in a numbers game, just get a plan into action and be consistent with it and you'll see improvements in no time

your body fat is prob 30%+

It looks solid fat rather than loose easy to lose fluid type, prob because it took a long time to put on. Dont try and conquer the workd in a day, do it in steps.

Your primary goal is to change your diet, more important than exercise initally IMO.

Try and cut out the following:

    Sweets (replace with fruit)
    fizzy drinks (replace with water)
salt and sugar (replace with nada)
Tea/coffee (replace with water/semi skimmed milk)
Lower your carb % on your meals and increase your good fats and protein (try and eat your carbs early in the day pre training and get a good 8 hrs sleep every night)
Alcohol (makes a huge difference and probably the hardest to let go) replae with a dvd, ps2 or whatever, stay away form the pub for a couple of weeks at least to notice the difference.
Eat plenty of fresh veg rather than pasta, rice, potatoes as the the carbs are easier metabolised.
Decrease your portion sizes by half and increase your number of meals per day by 2.

When exercising dont to too much initially, if you need a rest take one, if you dont feel like training today get a good nights sleep instead and train the next day. Dont make it feel like a chore, enjoy it within your own level. After 3-4 weeks you will begin to feel healthier and have more energy. You can then increase your exercise level accordingly. Rome wasnt built in a day.

Set yourself a realistic target and do your best to achieve your goals.

    well I got 4 different bf% measurements

A fitness professional with 20 years bodybuilding experience used calipers on me and measure me at 24%

I inputed my waist around navel and weight on the maximuscle site and got 28%

I am 43% according to my tanita scales

I am 36.7% according to the hand held tanita device

Even though the calipers are probably the most accurate I really do think im more than that, I think the maximuscle method might be where im at.

My plan is to do the bodyforlife program

I will keep the free-day but cut out all alcohol for 12 weeks

Look I'm not personally attacking you but from your pics (fair play for putting them up) you are overweight and as others have pointed out it's in all the wrong places.

At your stage don't worry about numbers etc, get out exercise, eat right and you'll notice the difference immediately.

you would be surprised how much weight you could loose from just changing your diet alone, seriously,if you cut out the crap processed stuff and replace it with good clean food then you will begin to loose weight.

So combine that with some exercise and your flying but the biggest battle is keeping to it,get a routine going and nothing can stop you.

As everyone is saying the actual number doesnt matter that much, more that things are going in the right direction. But its helpful to have a consistent measurement to keep track of. I have heard that the tanita scales methods can be more accurate as it measures internal body fat whilst the callipers only measures sub-cutanous fat. Personally though i think that could well be BS, too many variables mess around with the measurement and its difficult to get an consistent measurement so in my mind its pretty much useless. The callipers on the other hand if used correctly gives a pretty consistent indication of your progress, so if you have to chose one that would be the one i'd go for.

Congratulations on deciding to change your life and kudos for putting up the pictues i am sure it wasnt easy.

The hand held devices used properly are accurate to within 3% of actual fat%
i dont trust the calipers as they are to easy to use wrong, and are extremly hard to use on larger people, i wont use the calipers for this reason, if you put the right info into the handheld device and it is held in the righ position while on an empty stomach it should give you a fairly accurate reading. anyway, best of luck with your goal and keep us posted.
