Almost certain that you cant do it. You can download the software but it doesnt allow you to play.

You could always use an application to mask your IP or set it to another country.
You could also have a computer at home and remote into it.

    That's a negatory good buddy.
You'd be able to log in but the ip would be blocked from sitting at a table

mmmm that kind of sucks. cheers anyway.

I had thought of setting up tunnelling and the like, but I dont fancy leaving the pc on at home the whole time. I shall be off to bodog so.

Im told a site may be able to get around this.

wow, this is a massive sting in the tail for me.. i automatically assumed that although they didn't allow u.s customers we would be allowed to log in over there as long as we're depositing/withdrawing to e.u bank a/c's.. this sincerely sucks balls...

Sikes, I have a server online permanently (unix). If you or anyone else knows of software I can install to act as an intermediate forwarding station, I'll install it so people can get on that way while in the US.

i will have a look into it. Though only one would be able to use it at a time I would imagine.

I was wondering about this whole thing myself. Would some sort of proxy using software not work.

  • Business & Finance Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 32,387 Mod ✭✭✭✭DeVore

No, I'd be fairly sure that its called "a proxy" and many can use it at the same time. I just know very little more about them. I know some people use them to get around our basic tracking of multiple users on Boards somehow. It masks their original IP.

nah a proxy wouldnt work afaik. It can operate in two modes, it can take on the ip of the server, though the server can have multiple ips, or it can relay the original ip. But there is also another problem in that we have to set up the client to work with the proxy, which we cant.

One way to do it is to leave a pc on and connect through a vpn or whatever those are called. Another would be to catch all the traffic on a port and reroute it via a server, though I have no idea if there are any solutions for it out there, in theory its very simple.

Might head over to the nets/comms to see if they have any ideas.

I used a UK proxy address in IE to watch some UK tv when I was in America last year but I take it poker site look out for this more. Getting the poker client to work with the proxy is what I was wondering about.

anybody find any way around this yet?
i'm heading out at the end of the month for the summer and was hoping to rely on the juicy games at gjp to support my travels.. having to adapt to a new network like fulltilt or the likes would be a nightmare..

Virtual Network Connection (VNC) software should allow people to remotely access your server. You would run the server version on your server (obviously) and they run the client version on their PC.

Since this is really using your PC to access the sites, I am not sure how you could have more than one user at a time.

TightVNC is a good example of this (and free!)tightVNC website

Maybe if several user accounts were set up on the box (obviously known to Devore first) and each could log in independently of each other via VNC/RDP

in theory its fairly simple but getting all the bits and pieces to work together with multiple users is going to be alot of hassle.

Can you guys not just use another site for the while you are over in the US

i run vnc server at home the odd occassion i need to access it from work ...the latency is pretty poor. id worry thast it would be too much from the states especially for multi tabling

http://www.proxifier.com/ should work, point it to the proxy and launch the poker client through it, might take a bit of config but should work ok.

Nick whats the name of that site you connect through again?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 276 ✭✭blainj2

Dont want to de-rail you guys on your proxy/tunnel/server idea but for the well know/highly active players on ipoker would it not be possible to get in contact with ipoker in advance and let them know that you will be in the US for a period of time. Then when over there you could let them know your IP address and they could unblock it on the site as there would be no issues of you being a US citizen or anything. Im sure they wouldn't want to lose your business to a rival company to find it is possibly better and end up losing you forever. The only problem i can see with this is that ipoker will be too lazy to put this into action and that they currently have a firewall type thing that simply blocks all US IP adresses and will not be able to unblock individual ones.

maybe if you emailed them this now they might answer it by June 2009, tell you that they have a promising new update in the works that will fix all your problems that will be available later that year, then in 2012 release a MAJOR NEW UPDATE that tweaks the bet slider and doesn't fix any of their major bugs.

I think the simplist way to do this for a good number of players, would be to get a device like a sonicwall tz190 firewall, and get the required number of client VPN licenses. This would allow off site clients (poker players) to vpn to the sonicwall using the free VPN client. They would then be using the the puplic ip address of the sonicwall (ie the irish ip address).

This would be pretty straight forward to setup at both ends..

Logmein is much better than VNC for latency, and i have used it for poker before as a test.

The best way to do this would be to leave a pc on at home runing the logmein client (which is free) and then connect from laptop in the states.

yeah vnc really sucks. Logmein and Teamviewer are both excellent apps.
