Getting married in Germany: Documentation!

    Hi All,

I'm getting married in Germany in August and have been going through the hoops to get the proper documentation in place. I have the letter of Nulla Osta sent off, which was a main requirement, but the official says he wants a document stating that I have never been married before.

As far as I was concerned the letter of Nulla Osta from the Dept of Foreign Affairs (with an Apostille stamp) which states that I am "not bound by the ties of a valid mariage under the laws of Ireland" would have sufficed, but the fact that it does not say I have Never been married is causing him a problem. In effect the wording on the letter of Nulla Osta could mean that I am not currently bound by any ties, but I may have been and have either been divorced or a previous spose may have died.

So my question is, is there such an official document? If so, where would one get it? I mean, the registry of Births, Marriages and Deaths doesn't record things that have not happened, so how can I get an official document?

The only thing I can think of is making a Statutory Declaration and have it witnessed by a solicitor, which is exactly what I did to get the letter of Nulla Osta in the forst place...

    Any advice greatly appreciated!
