Thinking of heading up north for a few nights with herself and was looking for experiences of either Derry or Belfast for the weekend. Interested in nightlife, food, shopping and all the usual things you do on a weekend away.

Can recommend this hotel in Belfast, nice location, nice hotel.

Never been out in Derry, been out in Belfast a fair few times and it's great craic, so much so that I doubt any of memories would be of any use to you.

I love belfast and do like Derry, but for a weekend away for food, shopping and nightlife my choice would be Belfast.

Check out the Ten Square Hotel, very central and really quality accom. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in belfast if I had a choice.

Derry is okay, haven't been for years, but I had a good time there the last time I went. Very compact area for drinking.

Belfast is excellent. Most times I've been up there I've stayed in the Wellington Park Hotel on the Malone Road. Nice area and really handy for the city center if you don't want to stay in town. The Eglington next door is a great bar. Harry's Piano Bar is a pretty good spot too for dinner and music, not far from City Hall. Shopping is pretty good too, more or less the same shops that you'd find in Dublin city center.

I would suggest Derry during the day. Have lunch at the Diamond and walk the wall, shop and check out the Bloody Sunday museum by the Guild Hall.

Derry gets a bit boring after 6 so then head up to Belfast and have dinner somewhere along the Botanic and drinks in the Empire Bar.

Stay away from The Royal Bar on Shankill rd
