    Some pictures taken last night.
The sun was low in the sky and incredibly strong, which combined with the thick smoke from the flares, to make for difficult shooting conditions.
Tolka Park is the biggest kip you could ever be forced to work at!

Nice shots, love the expression on the first. Tolka is a dark oul hole, with a bright centre and two blackspots at either goal. Nice work with the 300 f2.8

I got the impression that the camera had trouble focusing on the dark City shirts. It was lightening quick on the Rovers players!
We're at home on Friday, so hopefully we'll get nice weather.
Turners Cross is great because it's so bright & open.

It will be always looking for contrast, thats how the af works. The more the subject blends in with the background the more hunting it will do. Doesnt matter what lens it is. Helps when its a 300 f2.8 though.

Yeah and Tolka is so enclosed, that there's a lot going on in the background too.
Just wish I had the money for a 5D or 1Ds Mk II as I suffer from the lack of a full frame sensor.

A full frame for sport? Definitely not a good idea. You lose the crop factor and the cameras are slower drive wise. The 1D Mark III is the biz. It has a 1.3 crop factor, 10 frames per second and a massive buffer. I don't think many sports photographers use full frame.

Yeah, I appreciate all that, but in places like Tolka, there's no room, so the players are on top of you and you end up cutting off heads. :(

A shorter focal length maybe? ;)

Some pictures, taken at Cork City FC v Derry, at Turners Cross, on Friday night. The weather was horrible, with the rain getting everywhere.
