Eye problem

    Hi,

This is my first post here so I hope I'm in the right place.

My girlfriend had problems with here eyes last June. She went to an optician who referred her to A&E in the Eye and Ear on Adelaide Road. She was referred to a specialist clinic there and she's been seen about once every six weeks by a variety of doctors including the head of the clinic and sent for a private CT scan in Vincents.

The problem is they don't seem to know what's wrong with her and it feels like they've given up. They treated one of her problems fairly successfully (she's still taking drops for it) but they can't treat the other and even tell her they can't see it at all. Lately they're spending less time with her and reducing her medication but when she does that, she gets worse again.

So my question (eventually) is, is there anything she can do? Could she go to another clinic or hospital and see if they are any better? If she did that, could her file and records move with her?

    Thanks,
    Mark

Well if you don't tell us what her symptoms are, how are you expecting any help?

Of course she can go to a private specialist, they can get her notes from the eye&ear hospital.

For the purposes of this board, her symptoms are pretty irrelevant.

She's been seen by some opthalmology people, and they haven't got to the bottom of it. Seems like you guys are pretty disgruntled by the whole process. That's fair enough. In my humble opinion your options are:

    1) to go elsewhere, like a private specialist. They're no better than the public guys. In fact they're usually the public guys. But they have more time to spend with the patients, and have access to quicker tests.

    2) Sit down with her consultant at her next clinic appointment and tell him/her the same things you've told us. Chances are they'll make a little time to have a chat with ur girflfriend and explain what's going on.

Hope it works out for you guys.
