Escrima Reccomendations

    Good Evening!

I was wondering if any of you could spare the time to reccomend a good escrima class - Please note that I am most interested in finding a class that does Competition Escrima, or trains for same. I am based in Dublin (Live on Northside, work city centre).

Also, has anyone trained with the Lescima organisation (Based in Bray and Donnybrook)? If so, could you say what it is like?

The reason I ask about this is that I am recovering from a pretty bad knee injury, and still have some treatment to go, but was looking to do something in some way martial arts related as I am getting bored out of my mind in the Gym - I was always curious about Escrima, and thought I might give it a go over the next few months.

Please note, I am not a newb, so there is no need to direct me to other styles. I have varying levels of experience (but consistently poor ability !) in a number of other Martial Arts - as well as having great respect for TMA's (as long they are not deliberately and disingeniously misrepresented), I am also a great fan of all types of Grappling, especially Jacket based (Sambo, BJJ, Judo) and the harder striking styles (Boxing, Muay Thai, Kyukoshin), but my current injury will rule most of these out for at least the next 6 months. That said, if any of you can reccomend something else that I could do for the next few months that wouldn't be too much of a strain on my knee, I would be very grateful to hear from you.

    Thankyou,

    Rgds,

    D

    Hi Samlaíocht,

I train with Warriors Eskrima www.warriorseskrimaireland.com, it's an excellent club but may not suit what you're looking for as it's not focused towards the sport aspect of Eskrima.

We obviously do sparing but not with competition in mind but this may fullfil your needs, we train Thursday @ 7pm why don't you come along tomorrow for a look.

I think your best bet might be Wild Geese www.wildgeesema.com they train in Doce Pares Eskrima which is the main system behind the WEKAF competitions format. Keep in mind that at present I don't there is any competitions for Eskrima at the moment in Ireland.

I'd recommend you try all the clubs yourself & see which one is the best fit for you.

With regard to your knee injury, there isn't a lot of high impact movement but keep in mind the knee is a very popular target in Eskrima. That being said 1 of the guy in my club is revovering from a bad cruciate injury & finds it ok.

Hope this helps & if you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask.
