Every report I've heard about this film says that it is absolute garbage.

Just watch the original instead, and don't waste your money.

I saw the trailer for the first time the other day. Still don't want to see the movie, but I did find it interesting that one of the penultimate scenes of the film (in the original anyway) was shown in the trailer:
The hitcher turning yer wan into strech armstrong

They just couldn't leave the classic alone. I saw it was made by the same people behind the amityville horror and texas chainsaw massacre films, both of which are awful, so don't hold any hope for this.

Asylum weren't long ripping this off either, and unlike many of their other ripoffs its actually meant to be relatively ok and extremely violent to boot.

    The Hitchhiker :D

Should fill the gaps nicely until 'Transmorphers' comes along....

Actually looking forward to The Hitcher, at least, it can't be worse then reviews of The Hitcher II lead you to believe, which I found reasonably enjoyable actually.

Havok, where can I buy these Asylum DVD's?

Seems like they could be fun after a few beers.

    Possibly from here:

    http://www.theasylum.cc/store/

Website looks a bit iffy though...
Don't see 'The Hitchhiker' on there either

stay at home, rent the original, and please PLEASE do not give more money to film companies that make the likes of this and amityville horror (remake), chainsaw massacre (remake), resident evil series, alien v predator, hills have eyes 2 (sequel remake!!) and countless others.

no money for them, means less bad movies for us and the chance that some smaller films might make it out there and get a piece of the film-fans pie.

spoiler for the hitcher : in a lame twist, it is the guy who is streched by the trucks this time.

I've bought a few of their movies, the ones I couldn't find elsewhere. Had no problems, other then fairly expensive prices.

It's probably better to buy them from other online companies, try and find some bargins.

EURGH, keep the fùck away from this movie! An example of how bad it is = Released in America back in January. Another remake of an absolute classic from the cash cow remake factory of Micheal Bay. How in God's name can you replace the lone character of the original with 2 Gap-ad college kids!?! On talking about Chainsaw Masacare with a smuggish smirk: "We made the movie for $12 million and it pulled in $112 million!" That smug fùck isn't going to stop until his heart does. He has obtained the rights (Well, 20th Century Fox have but he'll produce) for a ridiculous amount of movies. Wizard of Oz trilogy for example.

Global Warming? Nuclear holocaust? It's Micheal Bay you should be worried about!

Duggy 747 you are being a bit of a Drama queen here. Its just a movie! Relax!

I don't quite get why all y'all are slating The Hitcher so much. Its just a film, 90minutes of entertainment.
Does it terrify you that much - can't take the suspense ehh?

Try to differentiate it from real life - ITS NOT REAL. Its just a movie.

It's a ****e movie that's swindling people who want to see a good movie out of their money. It's also raping of the original classic akin to taking a dump on the mona lisa.

How do you knows its a ****e movie - have you seen it? Or are you reading the 'reliable' movie reviews out there.
Ever hear the saying the paper never refuses ink!

I have seen it and can confirm that it is garbage. I generally don't mind remakes, and quite liked the amytiville remake.

But this film is dreadful. It is your bog standard american teen in peril horror. Not one redeeming feature.

The effect of pumping more money into Michael Bay's war chest by paying to see his garbage movies is very real, and it has a very real after effect in that it causes him to make more garbage.

Karl Hungas is right about pumping money into this idiot's remake machine. I wouldn't even download this movie to watch it! Most remakes being shovelled out are cash cow movies, released in order to redeem lost profits for whichever studio owns the rights. There's much other valid reasons to why The Hitcher, or many others, are needed to be remade. The movie itself is only 21 years old and is a favourite of mine. It's one the movies I like to show to my mates who've never heard of it, until now which they'll end up seeing Bay's version and probably like it better or be turned off watching the original cuz the remake's flashiness!

To say "It's just a movie! Relax" over this shows your lack of enthusiasim for film. You do realise we're slating The Hitcher (2007) cuz it's a remake of a cult classic?

emmm, yes duggy i do know we are talking about the new Hitcher movie.
I think you are getting a bit excited about nothing. It's a horror movie, and 'does what it says on the tin'.
It's a bit of entertainment - not rocket science.
All your bulls**t about the money it's making - whats that got to do with it? The fiilm industry is a business afterall - do you not think those involved should be paid too? do you work for free?

There are a lot of movies being remade nowadays. Some good and some not so good, but I've heard this remake is a good one. At least it re-works the events of the original rather than copy it, which I'm sure makes it seem fresher and more exciting.

There is enought serious crap in the world to be dealing with today - so lighten up and just watch it for what it is!

Didn't like it at all... avoid!
Crap acting and dialogue.. I hated all the characters in this film. Stick to the origional!

Totally second that big time (prob been said half a dozen times already). The original is scary as hell, I think Rutger had a lot to do with that. Great film.

Ps the ending is shockingly brilliant. I think the original had the same effect on long distance drivers as Jaws did on beach swimmers.

    She's good in anything. ;)

Not a great movie. But not the worst of the remakes mentioned in this thread. I don't think the original Hitcher was that much of a "classic" in my mind for starters. Since I didn't care for the original I didn't come away from it thinking it was some sort of desecration of a cinema masterpiece. It's peculiar how some movies that are generally seen as mediocre at the time gain in stature over the years.

I remember the day I saw the original at the cineplex. Some cheap thrills at points but generally thought it was pants. It probably seems even worse looking back because we had seen Ferris Bueller's Day off earlier the same day. A tough act to follow. Now that show was real 80s royalty.

This remake is not a movie I would recommend. So give it a miss. But it did show some promise in the first half hour. It was actually watchable and created genuine tension. However, basically after
the family on holiday was murdered and the two protagonists are incarcerated in the redneck gaol
it all goes downhill and is essentially cartoonish the rest of the way.

This movie is no better or worse than the hostel films however ... which are just as devoid of plot and employ the tourist (generally American) in peril. The only difference is going to certain extremes to manipulate the shock factor for today's de-sensitised audience. But make no mistake the actual storylines are even more tripe and the acting bottom of the barrel. The annoying aspect of it is some people will hail films like Hostel/Hostel 2 then turn around and give out about movies like this.

I think i'm going to cry. Why do people keep telling me to calm down when this type of thing comes up. Seán Bean. Rutger Hauer. ANYBODY NOTICE A DISPARITY?! I mean what the hell? And sorry,
Or are you reading the 'reliable' movie reviews out there. Ever hear the saying the paper never refuses ink!

Yes.ever hear the saying, once bitten twice shy? Michael Bay's teeth marks are ALL OVER my arse and i fully intend to let him nowhere near me again. So no, i'm not relying on "Reliable Reviews"(which, btw, could only have been more smug if you'd included this guy::rolleyes: ), i'm relying on the fact that Michael Bay seems to think most people are idiots and actually believe in the old adage: How do you know till you see it? BECAUSE I'M NOT A MORON

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,746 ✭✭✭✭Galvasean

Saw it last night and although it was pretty bad, it was watchable in a 'turn off your brain and see how many Transformer cameos you can spot' kind of way.
Started off as by the numbers bull (don't get me started on the incredibly CGI rabbit), then it got kind of good for a while, then it descends into utter chaos as
Sean Bean takes out an army of cops GTA style
, then there is the really drawn out ending which isn't very good at all. It didn't really feel like a proper ending, more like the film just stops and lets you go home.
+ the trailer gives away EVERY plot 'twist'.
    5/10

Bringin this back from the dead!

Decided to watch The Hitcher last night on digital, and I actually liked!

thought it was very entertaining. Wasnt scary, but was jumpy and good at leading you on to think you knew what would happen at parts

there were lots of stupid parts, but nothin too crazy. I think bein terrorized by a random psycho allows for a little stupidity :)

So yeah, great little popcorn flick
