    Hi guys
I am new to all this. i did not even realise that airsoft guns were now legal here till a few days ago. anyway as the title says i am thinking about buying a CA or TM mainly because i HATE when things break on me and from the little i have read these seem to be the most reliable and they also keep there value. I would be looking to get m16/m4 type. so here is a few random questions.
Could you guys recommend some websites pls?
When playing a game is it better to have a rifle or carbine?
What kind of maintance is needed for these guns?
What kind of accesories would i need to buy with it eg extra mags or whatever?
Do you guys organise much trips to hrta only saying this because i know no one who is interested in this kind of stuff so i would kind of be going on my own.
How accurate are these guns?(always get pissed off with this when paintballing)

hmm think thats all the question i have for now

    hello and welcome :D

there's a whole load of links here
    and add
    www.ehobbyasia.com
    www.rsov.com
    to that list

also, have a look at the start of the Discussion about retailers thread and there's a few links there, if you come across a retailer your not sure about, just post here and someone will let you know if they're any good
When playing a game is it better to have a rifle or carbine?

all depends on the style/type of game, hrta is mainly CQB, so a carbine aeg is useful for indoors as it's smaller, but we also play outdoor in hrta and up north, so really it comes down to personal preference

What kind of maintance is needed for these guns?

not too much, i generally take them out after a game and clean them down, clean the barrel and make sure everything is still in one piece. also discharge/recharge batteries every now and again.

gas blowback pistols require a bit more maintenance and i strip my pistol every now and again and clean/oil it

What kind of accesories would i need to buy with it eg extra mags or whatever?
TM/CA guns dont come with a charger or battery, so you'll need to buy them seperately, some retailers do package deals that include the whole lot to save you searching around looking for the right stuff.

extra mags are always handy to have, there's 3 main catergories of mags
lo-caps normally carry around 60/70 rounds
    mid-caps have about 100-180
hi-caps are 200+, but they need to be wound before/during use, normally this doesnt really cause any problems since the winder is on the bottom of the mag and can be wound (on most guns) quite easily, so you can do it between shots or whatever
Do you guys organise much trips to hrta only saying this because i know no one who is interested in this kind of stuff so i would kind of be going on my own.
there's a game at hrta every saturday with numbers ranging from 6/8 upto 20+, there's games on sunday too, but generally there's less people there

How accurate are these guns?(always get pissed off with this when paintballing)
again, it depends on what type you get, how powerful it is, what kind of barrel it has etc... a stock TM/CA would probably have a max range of maybe 100ft or so, you'd hit a 6 inch target at about 50/60ft no problem

Id recommend the first site here but they dont have a very large selection
    http://stores.ebay.com/eHobby-Asia-Airsoft-Supplier
    www.dentrinityshop.com
    www.wgcshop.com
When playing a game is it better to have a rifle or carbine?
personal preference realy but a rifle isnt going to have a huge range advantage over a carbine so the compactness of a carbine is fairly handy
What kind of maintance is needed for these guns?
a little bit of maintance is needed, mainly just barrel cleaning
What kind of accesories would i need to buy with it eg extra mags or whatever?
You'd need a battery and a charger aswell as some extra mags [could make do with 2 high cap mags if ya wanna save some moneys]
Do you guys organise much trips to hrta only saying this because i know no one who is interested in this kind of stuff so i would kind of be going on my own.
theirs "skirmishes" on every saturday and sunday up at H.R.T.A
How accurate are these guns?(always get pissed off with this when paintballing)
alot more accurate then the rental paintball guns [i started on them aswell]
most will ave an effective range off 120-150 feet it depends on the gun and modifications

    hope this helps ;)

    damn it Douglas! :p

Another shop I highly recommend is www.UNcompany.com They have a large selection and offer deals on certain AEG's, so you get the correct battery and charger with a slightly reduced cost. They also have very good shipping costs and give you the option of who you want them to ship your package by, EMS, UPS, TNT, etc.

Just remember that these shops are all located in Hong Kong and you may get taxed on the package, 24% VAT and they include the shipping cost in that charge.

    vat is 21% i thought?

but there's extra charges such as duty and post office handling charge on top of the vat... so basically it adds upto about 24/25%

You are indeed correct, it is 21% but works out at 24 with charges. I should have been clearer.

mr magoo...either of them are good quality. tm would tend to be more abs while ca is more metal (the upper receiver etc) altho that shows in the price.

like all things i would set a budget...otherwise u will wind up eating beans on toast for a while. its incredibly addictive...expect to build an armoury!!!

when u look for a battery or batteries..remember to get a half decent charger as well...and one that matches they type of battery you own nicd, li-ion etc...

i assume u have a favourite style of aeg...if u want a hint, read some reviews, go for what u like (m4,ak's etc)...when u hold that in your hand for the first time..oooh baby....

finally u need googles and a brain and a calm personality...for example u need to use your brain...batteries attached and bb in magazine and no googles...not a good idea, even in your back yard a bb travelling at 200 feet per second and unprotected eyeballs tend not to be a good mix...i would also recommend a face guard, a lot of places demand it, unless you like dentists and broken teeth..to be honest i have never seen anyone get hit in the teeth...and i have no desire to...

finally u can build up your kit...you dont need a lot to start...but u wont want to stop there...also there is a lot of help on this board..saved my ass on numerous occasions already...welcome to what will be a huge sport in ireland!

in a word...yes...if you are smart, you can avoid it a bit or u can be lucky but even when its added its cheaper IMHO....

i haved used uncompany, ehobby, ebay, wgcshop and i have saved a lot by buying there then in europe, even with the tax.

i really would set a budget, this from someone who didnt...this month i got a m4 cqb and a h&k mp5 ris...and as i look at my credit card....i can see next month is a month of enforced slimming, not a bad thing as i need to get off my phat arse anyways....

whats the smart way to avoid paying import tax? :o

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,314 ✭✭✭Fiach Dubh

There is no sure way to avoid tax. Warning, most sites allow you to decide what percentage of the cost to declare on the package. I always select 100%. The reason being that if customs don't believe the amount stated they can asign a penalty that they believe fitting, you could end up paying even more. It's luck of the draw if you get taxed or not. I've placed a lot of orders in the last 6 months and have been taxed on about 60-70% of them.

I always find that a difficult call to make. You just KNOW it's not going to get lost in the post....

On the other hand..just imagine it did. And you hadnt got it marked down at the right price. That's a lot of money to be losing out on.
