    Hi.
Please be kind to me as it's my first post....
Is it possible to get RTE, TV3 and TG4 on the one aerial (UHF?) in this area.
Don't need any foreign channels. Excuse my ignorance on the subject, any help much appreciated.

P.S. Should mention that Tinahely is in South West Wicklow.

Guessing from your location (could be completely wrong), the Mt. Leinster tranmitter in Co. Carlow might be your source. However RTE1 and RTE2 are on VHF, while TV3 and TG4 are on UHF. You would need a VHF and a UHF aerial. Can you see Mt. Leinster from your location? Would be somewhere roughly to the south/southwest of you? Look at other house's setups near you. Do they have 1 or 2 aerials? What direction are they pointing in?

VHF aerial would look like this, might have less elements though:

UHF aerial like this. This example is vertically polarised:

UHF signals from Mt. Leinster are horizontally polarised so the aerial would be similarly aligned.

    Thanks,
Some of the neighbours have two aerials , some have just one UHF pointing towards mt. leinster. That's what made me think I might get the 4 channels on the one aerial.

Only thing you could do if you just want the one UHF aerial is to see your neighbours reception on RTE1 and RTE2 if they have just the one UHF aerial pointing at Mt. Leinster. If you think its adequate, try it out. But normally you will need the VHF aerial too for adequate reception for RTE1/2. If you plump for 2 aerials you should also get a UHF/VHF combiner, looks like this:

Run the co-ax cables from the 2 aerials to it, and then, run a single co-ax cable from the combiner to your tv.

Is the combiner a masthead amp as well?

No. Just saves the inconvenience of running 2 separate leads to your TV. Do you think you might need a masthead amp? Don't think you do. Have you line of sight to Mt. Leinster?

No, a couple of low hills in the way. I have LOS from up the road. I'll go with the two aerials anyway as that's what most of the neighbours are on.

Ok. Good luck with the installation! Do get the combiner as well, if you can.

P.S. Get a UHF group A aerial for TV3 and TG4. It should have red plugs as an indicator. TV3 is on channel 26, while TG4 is on channel 23. RTE1, RTE2 are on VHF, channels F and I respectively.
