    Hi Guys
just got a call from recruitment agency for a job.

It was a Accounts Assistant job.

We agreed on everything until i asked her a question.

I intend to do MBA in future will they be able to offer me the study package in evening ?

And then her tone changed. I am wondering I think it should be a plus point of the employer that employee is going for Masters degree ?

She said to me if you want to do masters this job might not suit you.So i had to back track on that   But there is not way i will leave my plans to do masters in future as i know it can put in in a very very nice position.

Has this happened to anyone before . How to guage that if they can offer you study package ?

She was delighted with my qualifications and experience.

She said she will call me back. I am not expecting a call back though.

Unless the agency are employing you they won't give a damn. If your employed by their client they get paid. They do not care if your doing an MBA in the future.

But if it's a fairly run of the mill Accounts Assistant job and you obviously have bigger and better plans beyond that then it can matter. Also, if they're to employ you as only an Accounts Assistant then an MBA is really above and beyond that job so why would they support you financially to do it?

It sounds like your plans are bigger than that job, hence the reaction.

Good employers will help the employees to progress in their careers.

In the company I work for, we actively push people to progress themselves as it's easy to stagnate and settle into the BAU position.

They should not hold this as a bad point against you - but then people can be strange sometimes.

    Hey,

Recruiters often have deals where they get paid (the balance or in full) after a certain duration of employment (3months, 1 year or whatever is agreed)

This might be a really crap job that you may leave if you have any ambition. MBA = ambition :). So if they are throwing you into this job just to fill it and get their commission you might not stay and they might not get paid.

I have found that with employers/recruiters that it’s good to show a little ambition like “I would like to grow within the role” and not “I want to be managing the department inside 18 months.” Of course the first bit of ambition there would be a lie but get the job and then chuck it when it’s convenient.

Just remember that it is okay to lie when you’re going for a job because employers/recruiters are going to lie to you to get you into a role.

How many people have heard this one? “We are a work hard, play hard company.” Translation: “We are a work hard company and you will get a sh!tty Christmas night out if we make our targets.”

    Later,
    j

Thanks very much guys for your replies

    Definately i feel better now.

The problem is that i want to get some accounts experience by working within the industry.I also dont want to sit all my life at that accounts assistant job.

I thought that she will be delighted that I intend to do MBA which i am reaally passionat about :D. But she just ended the call on a depressing note as my MBA will be a problem.

I just wanted to know that if the company will finance me for my MBA in some way. May be by paying my tution fee or anything else.I didnt even thought that telling someone about your ambition to be a professional will Shorten my prospects for that job.

Learned my lesson. Its tricky dealing with recruitment companies. They change their thinking at unbelievable speed.Once i was the best candidate as i asnwered her all questions and then the last sentence "I intend to do MBA in evenings" just changed who senario !

All said I am still as passionate about my MBA as i was before !:D :D

Thanks to jaarius,Triangle, ellscurr and daveg and everyone else your input its really helpful so next time. I better be a good liar
