English Rap

I'm listening to a lot of this lately, I have to say its refreshing to hear a new take on things and much of the stuff currently coming out of England is very raw and very well put together. Such artists as Klashnekoff and the rest of Terra Firma are some of the best MCs I've ever heard.

I also like Plan B but I can see him going pure commercial soon enough.

    Any thoughts?

Klash's new album is decent..skinnyman's class too Im also into taskforce, jehst and the foreign beggars. Doc brown is also very good. plan b was never anything other then 'pure commercial' he's beyond wack as far as im concerned.. A few minus points id see with it is a lot of the production sounds very dated as a whole.Another thing that irks me is a lot of them are trying way too hard to distance themselves from america..i.e. yer man sway with his "**** new york" track. Disrepectful in my book

I don't know what people see in all this british rap. I can't watch Channel U for more than 5 minutes at a time without wanting to burn their building down. Its all the same ****. 2 to 3 guys shouting over each other, acting like their rock hard "come to london and we'll "merk" you" etc etc. The videos make me hurt myself laughing, ridiculous hooded jackets and 30 "gangstas" swaying around behind the main guy.

Yes indeed "**** New York". Because these UK rappers will only ever be as good as anything from the US in their ****in dreams.....

IMHO, Nuie, Disfunk, Richie and even Kelly kell are far ahead of the british scene.

And on top of that we have 3 of the best DJ's in thw world in flip, Mek and Tu-ki.

The Irish hiphop scene is one of the strogest outside of the US, right up there with french and brazilian.

There is plenty of nice British MC's and artists out there - Klashnekoff, Sway, Dizzee Rascal, Example, JME, Rodney P, Doc Brown, Yungun and Mr Thing etc. In particular, Blak Twang and The Dub Pistols are the absolute dogs bollocks, no rap collection is complete without them.

TBH the British scene embarasses most scenes in the US, including New York.

I can't agree with you Orizio, I'm sorry. How can you say British Rap embarasses most US scenes? Do you actually believe that British rap is better than anything the West Coast/East Coast is putting out at the moment? (The Game/Nas) I don't hear any thing interesting in UK rap, and to put Dizzee Rascal in a list of essential rap is an absolute joke. His beats are badly produced, have no endearing qualities to them whatsoever, and his "rapping" is diabolical. Can you understand even one word that comes out of his mouth? I can't and IMO Dizzee Rascal is a prime example why the UK should give up tryin to make Rap music. Its ****ing useless, boring ****e music......

Whereas i might not be the biggest fan of Dizzee Rascal, i certainly wouldn't call his music useless or boring...and using the Game or Nas as your counterargument is hardly a very convincing one. I haven't listened to a massive amount of UK hip-hop but the likes of Roots Manuva & Ty are releasing music at least as well produced as whats coming out of America, and certainly more original & inventive than the majority of Hip Hop coming out of the states (from a commercial perspective!!!). How is a video of a UK MC with 20 of his buddies lookin well 'ard in the background any different to a US MC with a bunch of 20 of his "gangsta" buddies in the background???

The Game? You'd be better off not picking better examples than outdated, insincere commericalised nonsense like him if you wish to highlight the superiority of American rap.

95% of irish hiphop sucks. and those blokes would freely admit it, Besides the best act in "irish" hiphop today is an english lad.. 4 or 5 decent acts doesnt one of the best scenes in the world make

Lots of great stuff coming out of England. Channel U is an awful representation of it though, anybody with a camcorder can submit videos it would seem.

Plan B is never somebody I've gotten into. I get the impression he has gotten so much recognition as the follow on from The Streets.

UK rap is mostly gak. On a side note on brit rap...
Dont mix up "Roots Manuva" with the "The Roots", like I unfortunately did. One is a UK based group producing terrible trash that will make ur ears bleed....the other is a jazz/blues influenced hip hop group from the good ol' US of A producing some quality sounds, with their own instruments.

Roots Manuva's Brand new second hand is possibly the worst purchase ive ever made, albeit an accidental one.

How can you say British Rap embarasses most US scenes?

With honourable exceptions to Detriot, Chicago and the LA underground.
Do you actually believe that British rap is better than anything the West Coast/East Coast is putting out at the moment? (The Game/Nas)

Not a fan of Game, nothing more original then polished gangster rap.Nas' last two albums were absolute trash.
    His beats are badly produced,

Not at all, the complete opposite. His beats are original and different, two concepts completely alien to most big names in New York and the west coast, including Nas and Game.
    and his "rapping" is diabolical.

I hope your basing this on more then his accent. ;)
Can you understand even one word that comes out of his mouth?

    Obviously.
    I can't

    Your problem, not mine.
and IMO Dizzee Rascal is a prime example why the UK

Not really, since Dizzee is not comparable to most rappers in the UK.Have you ever listened to the other rappers on the list? You seem to be ignoring the likes of Blak Twang and the others I mentioned.

Ultimately you seem to be basing your argument completely on Dizzee Rascal, who is the absolute epitome of an MC thats going to be either hated or loved.I can see why someone like Dizzee - or M.I.A. - get hate from straight Hip-Hop fans, but dismissing the likes of Blak Twang and Ty is just wrong imo.

The best act in irish hip-hop is an english lad?

    Like ****.

If you're talking about ahmed you're a pleb.

    Top irish artists are

MJEX, Mek, Flipper and probably Kelly.

Who the **** is ahmed? Im talking about maverick sabre..his demo that he put up on the internet pisses over any irish stuff ive heard lately...Mjex are sage francis style takers who fell off after their first ep as far as im concerned. Mek and dj flip are class djs allright. I like rob kellys stuff too he's decent..all im saying is irish hiphop is mostly **** and 4 or 5 decent acts with releases every couple of months no way justifys you branding it "one of the strongest scenes outside the us" ahead of the uk, france, Japan, germany, Australia, Senegal etc etc etc..? Get real boy. Im usually very patriotic in most things but a lot of people need to take off the rose tinted glasses as regards hip-hop in ireland. Allthough ive got a feeling your one of these "support the scene" types who dismisses anyone who says a bad word about it as a ignorant or a hater. Ah well.

I heard rumours of Plan B sampling Thom Yorke. That sounds fairly interesting to me.

    Seriously,maverick sabre is very avrage.

Nuies wifey ep was better, and his new stuff he made with ratman pisses on blurred vision.Dublife pisses on it, the new DHT **** pisses on it, MJEX - now this i have to hear pisses on it, the 3 tracks I've heard from filthy rich piss on it, BDG's solo pisses on it, kellys new stuff ive heard and bragging rights piss on it.

the beats are above average, ill give him that, his flow is ok, but im just not feeling it, sounds very contrived.

There is a young lad from galway who gigs with deviant aswell, and his mixtape will be nice.

The scene is more than you think it is man,

I came across fairly agressively in that last post, tryed to get my edit on but couldnt for some reason..but seriously i know the scene. I listen to the majority of irish stuff that comes out..I dont want to start dissecting your post act by act as its all a matter of opinion and i like the majority of them acts you posted..rob kellys probably my favourite irish rapper and yer man filthy rich has excellent tunes, Im not into mjex but i can see their talented, but some of the others you put up are nowhere near maverick sabre in quality and a lot of them have admitted as much..but then again thats my opinion and you've got yours all im saying is that a handful of decent acts doesnt make a strong scene when you consider how saturated it is with gammy ones too.

Anyone know what Shameless Smokers Die Younger is like?

The lead single with Plan B was pretty nice.
