I would expect that GLS is significantly cheaper than An post.

Note: You have to bring your parcel to a parcel shop and that might be inconvenient for you (If you are outside Dublin, your chances of a parcel shop within reach are slim!).

GLS doesn't price parcels on weight, but on SIZE! So, have a look at the explanations they give. On the website follow the menu item "Parcel Shop" to find out about prices etc.

    Edit:
Cassiel's that was posted in the same minute as my reply seems to bring you to a more up-to-date Parcel Shop List, so check that one out.

Interesting, I'll be sure to use them next time I want to ship some uranium.

An Post's rates have certainly gone up, I remember they used to be a fraction of that to Britain around ten years ago (I seem to recall a max of 30kg costing around £15.)

An Post prices are mad! A friend of mine last year had to send a box (20kg) FROM Ireland to Germany and was charged EUR 98 by An Post. Another friend sent a box from Germany TO Ireland and paid in Germany around EUR 36.

With GLS it always seems to be cheaper!

It's worth getting a few gls boxes and filling them with what you want and then weighing them. Gls boxes suit heavy packages but the An Post rates suit lighter packages..

Haha. Awesome, same here! Thanks for the tip, though.

I called GLS, before seeing this thread, and the girl on the other line said the only did business-to-business, kind of, that I'd have to be a company sending one or two parcels a day to use their services. Must've pushed the wrong button somewhere.

Good thing I found this thread!
